So common knowledge on this forum indicates that what Toney did by putting on 100lb to go toe to toe with Sam Peters was a miraculous feat.

Are there any other MWs in history who could’ve matched, or exceeded this feat? Or is James Toney the singular, only one?

Stanley Ketchel decked Jack Johnson so maybe he had the punch to trouble Peters but not the chin. Maybe GGG`s got an even better chin than Toney! Would have liked to see Jones fight Peter or Toney at heavy but he wouldn`t stand a chance toe to toe.

Stood in the pocket, used every bit of muscle memory and craft as arguably THE craftiest fighter of his generation, likely loaded on roids...and still lost twice, rather convincingly IMO.

I'd bet that Canelo might do it if he weighed enough. Sonnuvabytch is as slippery as a greased eel, and he'd probably gas Peter out by the 5th just by making him follow him. He's probably too short to ever weigh 200+ and still move effectively though.

    No duh.

Everyone raise your hand if you’ve ever been a a baby.
Okay now raise your hand if you’ve boxed at MW professionally, went up and fought a tough SHW that gave Wlad fits. See the difference?

Do you think that he became faster or more durable as time progressed?

Yes, he was a middleweight way back when he fought for the MW title.

Huh? Calling 06-07 Toney a middleweight just seems silly, sorry.

But if you're really asking whether any other fighter who started his career at middleweight could have been able to go toe-to-toe with Peter, if given a decade a half and unknown quantities of anabolic substances to bulk up 70 pounds, then my answer would be that I really doubt it since I can't think of many middleweights with Toney's defensive acumen, smarts, and chin. But who knows--this kind of hypothetical is even more speculative than the usual forum debate fodder.

I wonder if you took the Hopkins who fought Glenn Johnson and bulked-roided him up in the modern style whether he could go ok against someone like Peter. Its not inconceivable with Hopkin's height , reach and boxing nous and big Sam's complete lack of boxing ability and overall slowness.

Peter can punch though unlike say Ruiz who Jones defeated.

He wasn’t a middleweight when he was a heavyweight you buffoon. He was a former MW. Why are we discussing this point? I feel we are becoming dumber by doing this ****** wrench in the tire routine.

Which other former MWs could go up to take a Sam Peters toe to toe for 24 rounds? That is the question. And your answer is probably none? Got it.
