This tread has been started, I believe, more than once over the years.
Two of my favorites; OK, one more than the other. :)
They say 'styles make fights'. Perhaps a few that Jimmy lasted with, Floyd...maybe... would not have lasted.
Neither ever, really, fought another with their respective styles.
IMO I see Floyd copping a clear UD here based on aggression. Jimmy would tag him, often, but I can't even envision a Jimmy KD here, let alone a win. This wasn't a 'plodding slugger' that Young often had for breakfast, but a heavy handed 'speed machine' who could go on the attack at a moment's notice. IMO, given styles, Jimmy couldn't rely on his savvy, which he so often did, to negate Floyd's cat quick attacks and would taste some leather throughout their fight.
Floyd UD with, IMO, short odds on a possible late stoppage. Of course that would (always) depend on Patterson's demeanor going in.

Floyd, Young would actually be a great opponent for him.

First of all, let it be said, that I love these two fighters...they're two of a mere handful of favorites of mine. SOOOO, with that much said, I have to go with Patterson by a decision...in a fight somewhat similar to his win over Machen,...but Jimmy Young, needless to say, was a defensive genius, of course, and Machen, however highly I esteem him, was not. Young's chin and recuperative powers were also much better than Eddie's, needless to say. So the fight would be won by virtue of Floyd's flashes of superior (to anyone's) hand speed and generally effective aggressiveness. Jimmy would have been overly committed to survival whenever Floyd turned on the hand speed I surmise. There would have been no knockdowns, but FP would have been able to reach Jimmy at times and even rattle him once or twice. A generally tepid, though occasionally suspenseful, strategic sort of fight, again, somewhat like Floyd vs Eddie Machen. I guess.

Would be like a Jimmy Ellis vs Floyd Patterson. FP lost a controversial dec.
A younger FP would have been too busy for Jimmy Young. No controversial
    here. FP on pts.

tough fight for Jimmy, I like Floyd, fast and hits hard. Of course, I would favor Young over anyone, and its not a done deal that he couldn't beat Floyd. He fought Dokes when he was old and heavier than his prime, I thought he won that fight. Even if you thought Dokes won, you must admit, Jimmy was right there with him, close rounds. I know Floyd hit harder than Dokes, But Jimmy didn't get hit much in that fight. Jimmy did well with Occassio and Norton too, neither guy slow. Floyd would be a handful for anyone though, except maybe Foreman or Liston

joebeadg, there's just 3 guys..who I would pick to beat Jimmy...Frazier, Patterson, and Marciano. All three are smallish heavies...not the usual behemoths that Jimmy usually had his way with.

Patterson's would know what to do with him. Floyds too scientific and explosive for young to handle.

Jimmy young was notoriously frustrating to fight, but also featherfisted and his style was tailor made for floyd, Jimmy did great against big punchers, that was Patterson's weakness, Jimmy didn't do as good against fighters that were more scientific than him, floyd was argueably more scientific.

Floyd picks his shots but batters him over 13 rounds before scoring a t.k.o. victory.

How would you see a fight with Tyson going Red? As slick as Jimmy is i could see Tyson doing a demolition on him which is no slight.

I don't know JT1,...if Bonecrusher Smith just made up his mind to commit himself to survival,...and he did a damned good job of it...think of how far Jimmy Young would have gone if he was similarly committed...and you know he would have been...Plus his chin was at least the equal and probably superior to Smith's IMO. He may have very well frustrated Tyson into being compliant with Young's intentions to frustrate him and going all passive, "accepting the agreement of an opponent to clinch and hold, etc.,...a criticism that Teddy Atlas was so fond of saying about Mike.

Patterson by decision, maybe. Really enjoy watching Patterson. I think he takes this one, with the judges admiring his speed.
