I saw a thread talking about what would the top 10 cruiserweight list be if there had always been a cruiserweight division and Moorer`s name was mentioned as being on the fringes of such a list because he wa a small heavyweight when he first moved up to heavyweight, I disagreed because Moorer was only effective at heavy as he grew in weight and adapted his style as a smaller heavy I don`t think he had the skills to handle the Jones the beat Ruiz plus he was rocked by Swindell at light heavy so I feel Jones could hurt him quite easily, who do you think wins and where would each man rate on an all time cruiser list? (including really small heavies).
Moorer never fought at Cruiser. But I would favor 195 lb (the Jones that beat Ruiz) to outpoint HW Moorer. Moorer moved in straight lines, and Jones would box around him.
Yes youre right those 2 gave roy stylistic problems BUT Moorer fights way different than both those guys because hes right handed. He liked to step in behind a hard right jab and hook or uppercut with the right off his jab. Roy would just have to circle away from moorers lead right. Which would be very easy because of the angle the 2 would be standing at. Roy would find it very hard to circle to his left, to the outside(the way you conventionally want to move vs a southpaw) because of moorers strong right hand which he held high, almost peekaboo, but roy actually liked to circle "the wrong way" against southpaws, which would be facilitated by the fact that moorers left was relatively underdeveloped and his feet relatively slow.
Roy murders Moorer. It would actually probably be close split decision in all reality, I'm just a Roy Jones fan so my immediate reaction is biased.
Roy Jones Jr at his best of the John Ruiz had that aura of invincibility like a prime Mike Tyson or Jeff Fenech. Once that bubble burst they were never the same. RJ ( 193 lbs ) of Ruiz fight on pts.
Throw Mugabi, Trinidad, Freitas, and Lacy in the mix of never being the same after their bubble burst.
I'm the idiot who created the All Time Cruiser list but, in my defence, the point of my original thread was a hypothetical ranking of fighters we thought might be great at cruiser, even if they had never fought there (or, in most cases regarding my list, if the division didn't exist at the time). I also only mentioned Moorer as someone who would miss the cut of my top guys. Anyway, I'm coming round to your way of thinking. Jones may well handle Moorer, and should be considered above him on my list.
