I reckon Tyson would be too big and too powerful for Dempsey but that is a great post. Mike's so called head movement usually only lasted three to four rounds anyway.

Mikes stamina was never great which is understandable when you realise what a heavily muscled physique he had at his peak. No endurance athlete has that level of muscularity. Add the fact that Mike fought " angry " not " relaxed " and you have a fighter who was never going to be a stayer instead of a sprinter.

    Cheers All.

" And don't buy that smoke that Foreman blows that Lewis is the greatest ever. Foreman is a huckster and a salesman who is just selling you his humble image. I know many who know Foreman personally, and I have been told by them that no way Foreman thinks Lewis is the greatest. In fact Foreman always says that Joe Louis is the greatest heavyweight champ ever. Joe Frazier is the greatest heavyweight champ under 6 feet tall, and Muhammad Ali is the greatest man to ever box."

All jokes aside, He actually thinks he can. :sisi1 ""Honestly as an amateur boxer I'd have seriously fancied my chances against Jack Dempsey, because he just isn't very good. Tyson would have blown me out in under a minute. The only arrogant comment there is how long I would have lasted against Tyson."

A 1989 Tyson would still be too much. Firpo had Dempsey out of the ring and Dempsey himself admitted to seeing stars. A 215-220 pound Tyson would still be too much for the much smaller Dempsey. Dempsey vs Patterson would be a more fair matchup.

I wouldn't dare question Dempsey's toughness, but being tough doesn't in and of itself doesn't win fights. Dempsey had a hard early life while Ali grew up in a middle class household with both parents. Doesn't mean Dempsey would beat Ali anymore than he would Tyson. They're probably hundreds of fighters out there who never made it big who may rival Dempsey in toughness. It's everything else that was in question.

Even if you packed on nearly 20 pounds of muscle on Dempsey a weight that he should actually be at around 220 at 6'2 or so he still would need the actual abilities to out box Tyson.

What I like about these fantasy match ups is the angle of Dempsey being the unstoppable mauler when everyone then wants to ignore about what boxing actually is ...and that's boxing anyway.

Tyson had better power, speed, size, defense , offense, chin, and a BETTER refined Dempsey style that Cus Damato took as the blue print to Tyson himself and made it practically bullet proof with the right guy able to do so .....

Does anyone really think off this forum that Dempsey should win this fight? Highly unlikely.

It would be a fun fight, but predictable. Tyson partially created his style based off Dempsey, only is argue Tyson did it a little better. Tyson also was bigger, stronger and faster. So Tyson KO in the third. Dempsey’s can take a hit, but he won’t backdown hence the fairly early stoppage.

Dempsey is faster, better footwork, better mobility, and probably the better overall boxer, but they are pretty even in that. Pretty close on power, though Dempsey might have the edge.

Tyson had faster hand speed, sharper head movements, better counters, higher volume punching, better explosive attack, and better chin.

Dempsey only followed opponents....this isn't better footwork.

Dempsey is not faster , Dempsey could not throw a 15 punch combo on display or a 7 punch combo in an actual fight in seconds....and certainly not with 10 oz boxing gloves .

No one can tell me he has more power either..what fight suggests this?

What fight shows Dempsey would do more damage to say Firpo than Tyson would?

    Total mismatch!
