SRR vs .....

    similar to the Ali thread.... both at WW and MW

    SRR (much like Ali) never lose (or very seldom) a hypothetical H2H.

    BUT if you had to dethrone him, what boxer presents the best stylistic chance of upsetting him? What trainer would you pair with a fighter, and what fight plan would you think would need to be implemented to topple him.

    SRR at his very best, who and how?

    Do you mean at WW or MW?
    I would consider Tommy a live dog and dangerous opponent to SRR at welter moreso than Middle...but how would he do it? Similar to his fight against SRL I? That ended badly. What would he need to do or change to beat Robinson?

    Robinson seemed to have the hardest time against pressure fighters that brought the fight to him. So I would choose Harry Greb to give him the toughest fight at MW. I think it would be a tough fight, but Greb could take a decision.

    I think about Basilio, and agree that a pressure fighter is the type of plan I would want to implement...but who to chose. Greb certainly has the rep to achieve this, I just wished we had footage of him to imagine how these styles would mesh. Good call

    WW - Montreal Duran

    We get Ray Arcel as a bonus. Duran would be a very live underdog. I like Duran over Hearns here because I think SRR's chin holds up and he gets Tommy out of there late.

    MW - Greb

    No film, but have to think 1920 Greb is the logical choice. Fast hands, feet, granite chin, and endless stamina. Ruby Goldstein told former prolific ESB poster Burt Beinstock Greb vs Robinson would be "man vs boy".

    I miss him too. Last posted over six months ago. I think he was almost 90.

    Basilio is who came to my mind first as well. So I thought "Who else could pressure SRR all night? Also at MW where he was great, but not as great as he was at 147." Harry Greb of course.

    If Basilio could beat Robinson then so could Duran. Basilio a one dimensional pressure fighter where as Duran can be a multi dimensional pressure fighter.
    I also like the Hearns pick I think Leonard could give him hell at WW.
    Hearne at both weights though.

    Just be Tommy Hearns. Bring those dimensions, that jab and right hand. Remember Hearns was also just as fast. Use the jab keep SRR on the outside. He would need to hold and buy time to rest so he doesn't wear down.

    I know I will be alone but I think B-Hop has the size skill and power to beat SRR at MW, his brilliant use of the ropes and angles frustrating and limiting Ray along the way. I also think Hops was one of the few of the 12 rd era who could adapt nicely in Rays time frame as well. I like B-Hop in a 9-6 type of decision

    I would also likely pair him with Bouye Fisher as the trainer

    Basilo never beat Robinson. I watched the first fight and Carmen got the worst of it. I gave him 4 rounds at best. This was a robbery

    Leonard & Hearns would do far better than the scrawny, limited Basilio
