Let's say RJJ was born and raised in London. How would have it affected his career?

Roy clearly doesn't fight solely for the money.

 

I think the British fighters would all have had to face Jones had he been British. We know Collins would have been game and Nigel would been up for it. I think Jones being a big name American was part of what intimidated Eubank who was blinded by the lights a bit. That wouldn't have been so much a factor if they had been born on the same soil.

As for Calzaghe I think his mindset would have been different. Why? Because he would of prob had to go through Roy should he want to become a belt holder. He'd have been a contender in the shadow of a star a bit like Froch was to him after he picked up a few high profile wins.

Agreed. There's clearly something else going through his mind as to continuing and I think it's fear. He doesn't know how to do anything else and change is daunting. Especially if you've been doing the exact same thing for your entire life.

I don't see how Joe would have had a different mindset though. His objective was to retire undefeated. Also, Joe turned pro in 93. By the time that Joe had started making waves, I think that Roy would have been at LHW just like in real time.

I hope he does. I'm always saddened to see guys carry on too long and he definitely has. Hopefully Bernard hanging them up despite having a lot more success as a geezer convinces him now's the time.

Here's some info from 2016 about RJJ's dire financial situation. He had Russian promoter Hrunov buy out his US debt and then pay off the money by fighting for Hrunov on Russian fight cards:

"When Roy decided to take Russian citizenship, it became clear that he was facing big tax problems. On September 10 of this year, I flew to the United States, in his hometown of Pensacola, to meet with his lawyer John Wirt. There I signed a letter on his behalf, which guarantees to pay $ 3 million for the debts of Russian citizen Roy Jones, as well as taking care of all of his tax obligations," Hryunov explained to Life Times."

"And this is not an obligation personally to Roy, namely to its creditors. To date, I have paid $1 million. This is a very serious circumstance. Before anyone spreads any rumors, I have stayed in this commitment. After that, he began to live safely and freely. But before that there were constant reminders from collectors who were searching for additional earnings."

 

I'd imagine he most certainly would of met Eubank and Benn at some point. I think if Eddie Hearn had hold of RJJ today, He would make so much money he wouldn't be fighting at the age of 89
