You said that Holyfield only outfought those guys on the inside because his opponents made mistakes.....well you could turn it around and say Denpseys opponents who he outfought up close maybe werent exactly great infighters either. Firpo? Willard?
Both guys were great on the inside, Holyfield just happened to lift weights and take steroids as well.

And not sure how the Judo would help Dempsey against tyson in a boxing match. It might help tie up a good and busy inside fighter, but like you already pounted out....tyson was not a good inside fighter and liked to clinch himself in between his attacks. since hes not allowed to put him into a chokehold or anything like that, the judo wouldnt really win him the fight. You dont get points for being the superior grappler or for hip-throwing your opponent, and since tyson didnt work much inside anyway grappling would only indulge him when he wanted a rest.

Once more you didn't answer a single thing I said. Run home to Mommy little boy and if you don't like a topic, don't read it. It's simple Snowflake. But you shouldn't try to censor others. But that's what liberals do.

There's a key difference between Dempsey's infighting and Holyfields. It's just not comparable. Holyfield's is more close quarter fight rather than infighting anyway. He just throws a punch or two in close range then clinches, at least in the Tyson fight. That's not inside fighting. Check out Dempsey-Gibbons, Dempsey has one Gibbons arms wrapped up so he's forced to fight on the inside where Dempsey's maneuvering and punching. THAT's inside fighting.

Like I said, it's different era's. Different skills were passed on and some left behind. It's not Holyfield's fault. Nobody else from his time was great on the inside like Dempsey.

What I mean't by mistakes is that Bowe had all that height and reach on Holyfield yet he chose to fight up close instead of using his size to his advantage. There wasn't any inside fighting going on against Willard. At least not any that made a difference. Firpo got smashed up because Dempsey took control and was too much for him.

I'm not saying Judo would win him the fight. Don't know where you got that. I'm simply saying that Dempsey was educated in grappling arts for example Judo and Wrestling which without a doubt were helpful on the inside. Mainly Wrestling. Judo wouldn't be so effective. I think you're taking a rather small part of an argument and blowing it up to something bigger than it is. I have no idea how adept Dempsey was at Judo nor when he learned it. I've just seen a source a while ago that briefly mentioned it. Let's leave it at that. It doesn't make or break the argument for Dempsey's inside ability.

I appear to be mistaken. Although I swear I saw 18 inches, it was actually 16 and 1/4 inches. http://coxscorner.tripod.com/dempsey_louis.html Bigger than Tyson's themselves!

I'm rather skeptical of that tale of the tape. No telling where he got it.
