Roughly one month after the annexation of Crimea by the Russian Federation Usyk declared (on 28 April 2014) he would never exchange his Ukrainian citizenship for a Russian one and that he considered Crimea a part of Ukraine.

Looking forward to this fight, from what I've seen this past two weekends both guys are pretty easy to hit, both durable, both have great stamina. Hoping it's a war!
Amazed to see comments here about these guys having good defence, chins yeah, defence? Hell no!

Why? You have dumb **** racists like @Kevin Willis who thought he wasn't ready, yet he proved me right like always.. I know boxing and that ***** doesn't have a clue. Take it from me, he's the real deal and biggest threat to USYK so far.

I could say something really bad here but I am taking the high road. If building some proxy case against me for picking Lebedev to beat Gassiev makes you feel better about yourself then keep it up. Many people on here recall how you acted in that GGG/Alvarez RBR which tainted your reputation forever forever.

The Orange Revolution was the Ukrainian people against Yanukovich and his puppet master Putin, Russia attacked Ukraine, Crimea is still a part of Ukraine, it was just stolen................by Russia..................former KGB Putin the enemy of the people, including the people of Russia, weird how Putin opponents end up dead or in prison................America needs to give a lot of aid to Ukraine, but Trump is afraid of Putin, as he should be. Wonder how much money he owes them? So, have the fight in Germany................Vitali Klitschko is the mayor of the 8th largest city in Europe, Kiev. You should see the improvements he is making, but his life is in danger.............Vitali bought a lot of bullet proof vests for he and his council, etc., that money came out of his own pocket. Vitai and Putin should fight in the ring to the death to settle things................Does the name Paul Manafort mean anything to you? Remember? Whatever, Vitali is doing a great job, have the fight in GERMANY!

Usyk is just a volume puncher. Gassiev has better quality skills and his punches are more meaningful. Usyk has punch variety but he can’t place counter shots good with meat on them like Gassiev. His movement is even more for show than it is effective. For the most part, Usyk has just been bigger than his opponents and has had more stamina.

We’ll see if he can take shots to the body and if he can handle well timed counters because in all reality, we all know Usyks defense isn’t all that good as he’s very hittable. I’ve never been impressed with him as a fighter. I was very impressed with Gassiev.

By all means, correct me. I'm always looking to learn from an expert in Ukranian studies.

It's too complicated for you. Because it's too complicated even for us...

We'll if you'rw comparing Gassiev to Barerra and Zaggers then he's in pretty good company.

The part about Usyk and Lomachenko's preferences might be wrong, but the part about the schism in the eastern and western half conforms to what I know of the situation from actual Ukrainian emigrants that used to be coworkers of mine, as they explained it to me. Half wants to be more European/cosmopolitan/globalized (and yes, more Americanized influence, up to a certain point) and the other half wants to be more or less assimilated with Russian culture/values at least insofar as they overlap with traditional Ukrainian ones (going back to common roots in the state of Kievan Rus) - and both sides have very fierce nationalistic pride and believe themselves alone to be the "real Ukrainians". So if he's wrong in his assessment, he's parroting a specific brand of wrongness that has coincidentally made its way far and wide to reach many ears.

The part about schism might be correct to some point, the only problem is that @slender4 got the parts completely wrong :) (the western Ukraine is pro-western (well, "strange" isn't it?) and the eastern Ukraine is more pro-Russian). And I actually live in Ukraine...
When I said earlier that "it's too complicated" it was not to belittle someone's intellectual facilities, or something like that, no (@slender4 is obviously a smart guy), I said it because it is complicated as hell.

I've read a book or two about American history and there was some strange periods there as well. Let's say the American War of Independence -- basically people of the same nationality, language, religion were fighting each other bitterly and at the same time traders wanted to trade with actually, well, the enemy, in fact? So many were against trading embargoes and stuff like that...
Or, even earlier, The French and Indian War. That was even crazier, I guess. Many farmers of British America were quite glad to sell grain to the French... How crazy is that? The war is going on, and you sell the foodstuffs to your direct enemy...

The situation in Ukraine is too complicated and, well, crazy to understand from the outside (it sometimes is even from the inside). Ukraine is multinational and multicultural country. For example, Russian is my native language but that doesn't make me a Russia sympathyser at all. I'm a Russian speaking Ukrainian.

Let's stop this conversation at this point, please. At least it should be a separate thread somewhere in the "offtopic" section. And I won't even read that, because I visit this forum to take a break from all this politics and war and enemosity ****...

    Thank you for understanding.
