"First thing is first, We just want to make sure that we're back completely. I might not even fight anybody in the top ten in my comeback fight. We'll have to see what we negotiate, but outside of that, the second fight should not really be against the number 2 guy. I can go after someone from the top seven up, the top five up, but shouldn't be the number two guy," Thurman told Kevin Iole of Yahoo Sports.

This dude is a joke!!! He wants to go after a Top 7 and up guy after? That means four fights (he's keen on rematching Porter and Cherry) before Spence... IF he ever fights Spence.

Pacquiao faced Rios after suffering one of the worst KO losses in the history of a sport followed by a long lay off... And he was SIX years older than Keith is!

Why should he have to fight Spence immediately after coming back from injury. He has proved a lot more than Spence has at the weight...

He shouldn't... But he sounds intent on pushing the Spence back as far as possible. Maybe he is hoping that Spence will lose or get knocked out in the meantime. It's just pathetic that he's flat out saying that he's going to take 2 bum fights in a row.

He's been off for a long time, spending his money and traveling. He likely is trying to stack some bread before he faces a tough opponent. Pure bull****. Take the tuneup fight. And then fight your mandatory. Porter will probably win the rematch with fair scoring as Thurman can't fight a hard 12 rounds. Never thought Thurman would turn into a clown. You can tell from your gym work, and sparring how your elbow is feeling, and you get tougher work in sparring, then you do fighting a can in a tuneup fight.

Yup. He swerved Vargas... But the funny thing is, he made it sound in interviews like Vargas wasn't a worthy opponent.

Well he said bum #1 (kind of) but then a top 10 opponent.... He may have mandatories by that point too but it doesn't mean he won't fight Spence by end of the year or beginning of next... Let's see who Spence fights next because so far it's been a broken Brook (who he was losing too) and a tiny Peterson who isn't a top ten WW.

He doesn't but trying to ease back with a couple easy fights is bull****. You know how your surgery repaired body part feels during rehab, in the gym, and in sparring. If it isn't ready don't fight yet. But don't ask for two cans, because you get better work in sparring.

If his elbow is 100% from surgery, Vargas isn't a hard fight for Thurman. Its almost like he doesn't have confidence.

He stated one not in the top ten... Not exactly a bad thing. Sparring is different to a real fight... The guy gets a lot of hate on here for no real reason..

One warm up fight then porter then spence early next year would be fine, danny Garcia should just be forced by Harmon to fight spence in November.

I think he was hinting that he'd get better work from sparring better competition in the gym while rehabbing his shoulder than having an actual fight against the lesser sub-top-10 competition

The dude just had calcium deposits removed. People act like this guy got major surgery. Thurman was satisfied with DG. Now is milk it stage and he isn’t fooling anybody.

Lots of fighters think they're fine in ths gym and then find out thsy aren't at the worst possible moment.

Nothing wrong with him taking a top 10 guy on for his return. Following that though i'd expect a top 5 guy at the very least pretty soon after the comeback bout before unifying.
