You're wrong. I actually polled my office at my last job at a mid-sized company. Almost everyone knew the name Manny Pacquiao. Even the old ass people. Almost all the women knew Manny Pacquiao was a pugilist, but got the sport wrong. They would say "he's an MMA fighter, right?" Although I never asked, I doubted anyone would have known who Ricky Hatton is. Put it this way... my 87 year old oma (German-Jewish chick) knew that Pacquiao was a fighter (though she didn't know the difference between boxing and MMA) and asked me if he fought "that black guy" yet. Remember, Pacquiao was doing Fallon and Letterman for a few straight years.

No question he’s an ATG. The only 8 divison world champion and one of the best resumes Boxing has ever produced.

Manny Pacquiao has a record of 22-5-2 (10 KOs) against former or current world champions:
    • Won against Chatchai Sasakul, Lehlo Ledwaba, Jorge Eliecer Julio, Marco Antonio Barrera (twice), Erik Morales (twice), Oscar Larios, Juan Manuel Marquez (twice), David Diaz, Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Miguel Cotto, Joshua Clottey, Antonio Margarito, Shane Mosley, Brandon Rios, Timothy Bradley (twice), Chris Algieri and Jesse Vargas.
    • Lost against Medgoen Singsurat, Erik Morales, Timothy Bradley, Juan Manuel Marquez and Floyd Mayweather Jr..
    • Drew against Agapito Sanchez and Juan Manuel Marquez.

The fact of the matter is that Manny's fights generally got watched by hundreds of millions of people globally. Maybe 60-70 million came from the Philippines but 37 million Mexicans watched him fight Marquez for the third time and 32 million Mexicans watched him fight Margarito. His popularity transcended the usual boundaries of race or language. He was popular in and beyond the Anglosphere.

I never said scam, I said scheme and anyone can do it under the same terms Manny did it ONLY IF they can fight their ass off like he did.

LMFAO you know damn well Pacquiao went after Marquez because he saw Marquez didn't carry the weight well after Mayweather shut him out, Roach and Pacquiao saw that as a opportunity to get Marquez and it fired back at them ! Also why did Pacquiao went after the loser instead of the winner of Morales vs Raheem? What's your excuse on that one??

I don’t think Manny went after JMM because he saw JMM didn’t carry the weight well after the Floyd fight. Marquez jumped up 2 weight classes for that fight so it really wasn’t an indicator of how well he carried the weight....it always takes a bit of time for most fighters to acclimate to higher weight classes. PAC and JMM fought a rubber match at 147 in 2011 and Manny was awarded a MD, then they fought a 4th time in 2012 where JMM knocked Pac out. So it wasn’t like Manny was trying to take advantage of Juan not being a top fighter at 147.

Manny faced Erik in a rematch because that was a huge fight after he had lost in a classic. Raheem wasn’t a big name and no one was calling for that fight. The money played a role in going forward with the rematch instead of fight Raheem who had beat Erik in a boring fight. It was the same deal with Mayweather deciding to fight Zab instead of Baldomir after Zab lost to Carlos. It was a money driven decision.

Pac's still a very good above average, by far, fighter, it's a shame he has been cheated so many times, esp. against Horn who will be knocked out by Crawford in an easy fight, Crawford can't wait to knock Horn out, but has to watch out of Horn's head, elbows, wrestling, holding, etc., SOB should be Horn's trainer............

Anyone can do it? The amount of boxers who were able to win a world title as an emaciated teenager who can barely afford their lunch is incredibly small. The amount who can fight at a world level for 9 more division excludes "anyone" in it's near entirety.

I think you missed the mark, here, Farmy, this is the one thread on the General Forum about Manny Pacquiao that actually has nothing to do with how good he is now, still, currently.

Manny Pac is the only boxer in the history getting close to Tyson and Ali stature of fame.
Indonesia has a population of over 200 million. Big fights are on free TV almost every Sunday.
I cannot attest to the other part of the world, but trust me Pac is well know through out Asia.

Yeah, in any of the parts that know about or follow Western boxing, I'd wager. So like, Indonesia, Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, etc. - although I'm not sure if, say, Nepalese or especially Tibetans are really into bloodsports.

Japan has its own extremely strong history in the sport (even more so than Korea and Thailand, who also do well producing good talents and keeping up burgeoning domestic scenes) with plenty of their own icons, so they're probably aware of Pac as very likely a household name like Mayweather/DLH/Mike Tyson but don't embrace him as their adoptive hero the way lots of the other Asian countries do (with all due respect; you guys did have at least one great contemporary to Pac in Chris John, and nearly another in Daud Yordan)

Chris John is very popular. His face is on lots of billboard and ads. Daud Yordan not so much lol.
Ellyas Pical and Nico Thomas are also very popular in the 80s. Both are super fly weight.

Well of course that follows logically, John is significantly greater than Yordan (hence why he beat him in their h2h match-up even though John was past it and Yordan prime), but my point is that Cino was also very good himself and was the nearest thing you've had since the Dragon.

Of course, I remember they were pushing hard for poor little Rasmanudin to be the next big thing, but it backfired hard on them. He was a victim of too-high expectations (and brutal matchmaking)
