We hear a lot of talk about how many people think this or that fighter of yesteryear would do a number on Deontay 'WBC' Wilder.

But let's flip that and ask ourselves who is the fighter or fighters from history who we rate and think the Alabama slammer would be a worthy favourite over?

Note: this is not another Wilder hate thread so if you're going to give an answer like Sconiers then accompany that with a serious answer or don't bother.

I'm going to go with Greg Page, Cooney and Berbick to start.

"Favour" is a hard one. I'm not sure I'd favour him over prime Frans Botha tbh.

One the other hand he'd have a punchers chance against many HW, because he can really hit hard.

Let's see how the Ortiz fight goes. Assuming Ortiz doesn't come in limping or clutching his heart, and Wilder genuinely looks good, it could be his coming of age moment. TBH, I'm expecting another Bambi moment.

I think he should be favored over china chinned glass cannons like Morrison and Hide at this point but didn't have many agree with me. Time may make that look a stupid opinion.

Thing is, Hide and Tommy could box a bit. Wilder has looked crap too many times to favour him over anybody with a big punch and a bit of ability. Let's just see how he does with Ortiz. All he really needs to shoot up the ratings is some footwork, a bit of a jab and some coordination.

Byrd is another 1. Would I expect Wilder to be able to land something big on him?

I've always thought Byrd was a horrible match for Wilder. Hard to land on and a good chin as well. Povetkin who has pretty good accuracy struggled with Byrd's elusiveness. Certainly though, if Wilder did manage to catch him, he'd be having flashbacks of Ike.
