Before you laugh, Mcvey was a heavy that was 205-220 pounds so he was the size of a modern day heavy and had some good wins over the top fighters of the early 20th century. How would he fare vs a prime Riddick Bowe? McVey ranked alongside Jack Johnson, Joe Jeanette, Sam Langford, and Harry Wills as the top black heavyweights of their generation
McVey is one of my all time favourite fighters. He was like a young Mike Tyson in his prime, I really rate him. Plus he took part in the most epic boxing fight in history. It's arguable that from June 1915 till September 1915 he was the number 1 HW in the world. I mean Johnson had previously beaten him but he point blank refused to defend against him. I don't for one second think Johnson was scared, but he wanted more money than people would pay. There is enough footage of McVea to see his style and whilst I do think he's a top level HW, Bowe is better on the inside which is the only place Mcvea has any chance. Bowe will have his head off and win exchanges up close with his superior arsenal. I actually think Bowe stops him within 3 rounds. I love seeing McVea get a mention though.
