Island Fights 46: Roy Levesta Jones, Jr. vs. Christopher Scott Sigmon RBR

Nice big cheer for Roy. He takes a moment to soak it all in while the ref and Sigmon patiently & respectfully wait.

 

This is for the vacant WBU Cruiser title, which Jones previously held from 2013 until 2015.

 

Round 1

Sigmon is crouching from a few paces out, already flinching and reacting to even the suggestion of a feigned jab. Sigmon throws a few underhanded whammies on the body, and Jones yanks him into a knot while backing into the ropes and grinning, jaw-jacking and laughing. Sigmon is frustrated, wrenching his right arm free and paddling it against Jones' side. Jones proving his superiority in physical strength here, restraining Sigmon by keeping him pulled tightly into a clinch against his will. Sloppy left-right-left-right pinball launches by Sigmon on the waist. Fast triple hook downstairs by Jones with a sudden burst of speed and power. He pries Sigmon loose and lands a couple more power shots, mixing to body and head. Jones slows down, grinning at the crowd, and lets Sigmon bore into him, face-down, plugging away on the body with light taps. Jones looks bored, just recovering the wind he expended with his brief offensive spurt. Quick double uppercut on the belly from Jones.

10-9 Jones even though he got majorly outworked, there was that much of a gulf in quality of work.

 

Yeah looking time-machine worthy ...for like twenty seconds a round.

 

Round 2

Sigmon is shoeshining on the body and Jones claps him with a few counters while giving up ground, baiting the lead. Sigmon's gum shield out. Long delay for some reason before resuming, both men pacing around. Sigmon's corner maybe grabbing a sterile one? Time in. Sigmon marches forward, throwing weak flapping combos at the sides. Jones rocks him with an uppercut with his back on the ropes. Jones showing off with his speed and precision, letting Sigmon walk all the way in and timing him with flush uppers on the nose. 1-2-bodyshot-jumping left hook by Jones, threading the needle, hurting Sigmon badly. Most of a minute left. Jones styling on Sigmon. Jones building into a rhythm with his combos now, feeling it. Finally Jones slows again, only has so much in him at once. Sigmon resumes pressing Jones across the ring, into the ropes, working body shots. Huge rabbit punch by Sigmon at the bell as Jones ducks and Jones hoots and hollers, chortling, going over to chat with the commentators at ringside.

Round 3

Sigmon is cautious now. Jones wants him to come forth, dropping both arms, making faces at him. Sigmon is once-bitten twice-shy, however. Jones antagonizing him with flip-up jabs off the hip. Sigmon puts both arms out to push down on Jones' and walks him into the ropes, wrestling and popping in a few light slashing hooks across the belt line and over the brow. Jones is slipping and countering with his buttocks sat on a middle rope, throwing short fast combinations in counter, tenderizing Sigmon's abdomen, then cranking the uppercut into his reddened nose. Sigmon keeps making the same mistake, shoving into Jones with both hands, only for Jones to use this momentum to sag into the ropes and spring-load a left hook on the face that causes Sigmon's head to jerk around sharply. Big shot by Jones has Sigmon almost wobbled through the ropes in the waning seconds.

Sigmon is puffy all over, everywhere visible above his trunks has been a hard target.

 

Sigmon's dream of making Jones feel "a little uncomfortable" in rounds 8, 9 and 10 seems like it might be a pipe dream...I don't see him lasting a full seven at this rate.

 

Round 4

Sigmon just has no answer, but cannot help the inexorable tractor-beam pull toward Jones. He doesn't want to quit, and won't run, but his only remaining choice is to put himself in the line of fire, and that's what he does, repeatedly. Jones is catching Sigmon by his throat, clutched between his fists, positioning him where he wants, then putting rapid straight volleys on the gut and then turning over nasty hooks and uppercuts on the face, delivered while Jones is sliding his feet backwards and yet still leveraged to hurt. Sigmon's legs growing shakier by the second.
