    Starting with Berbick
    So Dempsey vs
    Berbick
    Bonecrusher Smith
    Tony Tucker
    Tyrell Biggs
    38 year old Larry Holmes
    Tony Tubbs
    Michael Spinks
    Carl Williams
    Frank Bruno
    Buster Douglas
    Henry Tilman
    Alex Stewart
    Donovan Razor Ruddock

Could Dempsey make it through this list of challengers or are they too big and modern?

I think Spinks would fare a lot better as he would probably be arguably the best boxer that Dempsey ever faced. He certainly would be the biggest, as far as size is concerned. The same could be said for the 1988 version of Holmes. Ruddock and Bruno would be the most physically powerful. I don't know...

Holmes would have been out a while ,so Dempsey gets him sooner or later. Yes its true regarding Ruddock and Bruno , but they weren't the most skilful of heavy s .But no doubts they could bang , I just think Jack s to fast with reflexes and punching power. Plus a solid Chin.

At least 3 beat him, maybe 4. He just never faced this level of athlete... and won.

You give Dempsey too much credit. I suspect he would avoid roughly all those fighters to face the dangerous Sammy Scaff then goes life and death with Steve Zouski. It would have been great memories.

Whaaa? Spinks even blown up was smaller than some HWs that Dempsey fought, such as Firpo, & small compared to 6' 6" 1/2", near 250 but grown soft Willard, his famous original title fight. Holmes was certainly smaller than him too.

That can be debated. A solid argument can be made both ways.

Yeah but he was much more skilled than Firpo. Firpo would be like a street fighter compared to Michael Spinks. His skills were also much better than Willards.

You forgot Evander Holyfield, he will beat him twice in under 10 rounds combined!

    Blasphemy!

I think it is more the succession of well-trained, modern-sized heavies that would cause a probability game against an undersized guy like Dempsey who wasn't averse to taking risks. He can roll the dice but against these he wouldn't always be the first to land or the fastest, or even necessarily the hardest hitting. And I'm willing to bet guys like Bonecrusher and Ruddock and Bruno and even Douglas hit harder and more effectively in return than Firpo.

I think that he would have picked up a couple of early losses, due to his lack of amateur pedigree.

He would have gone through the same contenders, probably needing more rounds to put most of them away.

He might well have stopped Smith or Tucker however.

I don't think that he would have lost to Douglas in all honesty.

He might well have been ready to be taken, by the time Holyfield came along.
