Are there any fighters in history you think could beat a prime Roy Jones?

I think Roy could possibly have beaten faded Michalczewski. Not prime. Fighters age differently and Roy noted his sharpness when facing Lacy
You obviously never watched the DM/Gonzalez fight as you site it but didnt see it to know how debatable it is.

No more fantasy when you consider Roy had Calzaghe as an option and decided against him

You forget that Michalczewski had already been WBA, IBF champ as well and beat the stripped WBC champ Rocchigiani

Still the B/C level comp you note must have included (in your opinion) Griffin who beat Jones, Rocchigiani who beat Nunn who Jones didnt face to name a couple

Jones had a bit of a comeback and had got over his weight issues

As you like looking at fighters opinions to suit you so much then read Boxing News this week and to quote a section "There were so many times when I thought I was at my best. Shoot, even when I had some time offand fought Jeff Lacy [in 2009], I was out there thinking, damn, I dont think i've ever been this sharp before. Wow.

"I'm not chasig roy jones" agreed Calzaghe with a fiendish grin "sorry failey" he added.

I didnt give him a mythical win. Calzaghe beat Jones when he was closer to the end of his career than Jones was, in America.

Still notice you havent given me this long list of SMWs Calzaghe was supposed to travel to America to defend against.
Why is that? Why are you ducking the question?

You still havent listed all these SMWs Calzaghe should have gone to America to face when he was champ defending? I bet you wont either. You keep making a comment that you cant back up in any way.

Jones wasnt even 40 when Calzaghe beat him.
Think you should stay off the threads

It wasn't a long rambling essay.

Yes, Hopkins didn't fight Joe in 2003. That's fine. But that's one fight.

What Aussie Invader said was 100% correct.

Joe was content to stay at home and defend his WBO belt with Frank W. And that was fine. There was nothing wrong that. However, that is the reason why he didn't get the bigger fights earlier in his career.

    The Kentucky Cobra,

    Okay, that's your opinion.

    Yes. It's a shame they didn't fight in 2000.

I think that Virgil would definitely have beaten the version of Roy who Glen fought. Because he was still shell shocked from the devastating loss to Tarver.

    The circumstances are completely different.

Mike was in line to fight Duran, but Duran vacated. Mike then wanted Hearns, but Steward wouldn't allow it. Mike then moved up and fought: Kalambay, Graham, Collins and a young, peak version of Toney. Then when he was faded and at the end of his career, he faced: Tiozzo, a peak version of Roy, and then Toney for the 3rd time.

    Mike fought the best.

    He chased the best.

Joe killed himself to make SMW, to defend a lightly regarded belt for 10 years, only moving up in weight in his final year as a pro.

Mike took fights that Joe would never have dreamt of taking. Joe wouldn't fight: Roy, Tarver, Pavlik or Dawson, saying that he'd have needed the 'Crown Jewels' to have fought Roy, before dismissing the others by saying they hadn't impressed him and they'd done nothing to warrant a fight. This was the same guy who fought Mario Veit in a rematch, just 4 years after knocking him out in a single round.

Joe played it safe his whole career.

Don't ever compare him to Mike McCallum.

Joe was easily big enough to have fought at LHW.

Many of the LHW's of the 90's/00's, were former MW's.

Bailing on the MW division to fight Toney at SMW?

He left the SMW division because he couldn't unify with Benn and Liles. He could have sat on his IBF belt for years, hoping for future opportunities, but he didn't. He moved up and sought out other challenges, which was to be his 3rd weight class.

From what I've seen, Joe made sure he was never in a position to fight Roy, only to then fight him when he knew he was finished as a top level fighter.

It's a shame that Joe and Bernard didn't fight in 2003. And from what I've read, Frank W really pushed for that to happen. But Joe was relatively unknown outside of Europe at that point, and when that fight fell through and he couldn't fight Ottke, he should have moved up to LHW.

Good for him. But again, what he's achieved is nothing special.

    His opinion wasn't vague.

    It was spot on.

Serge is also correct. You cannot place any blame on Joe for that fight not having taken place. However, Joe never pushed for any other big fights, and he was relatively unknown in the U.S. at that point. And that's because he was more than content to defend his WBO belt in Britain. He was happy to milk that for all it's worth, just like Dariusz did with his WBO belt in Germany. If Joe had truly have wanted bigger fights, then he'd have fought in the U.S. on his Showtime contract, and he'd have moved up to LHW, instead of fighting the Salem's and Mkrtchyan's of the world. Joe wasn't hard done by. He wasn't unlucky. He was happy doing what he was doing, which is why he's boasted many times of his number of WBO title defences.

You're telling me that Roy couldn't have beaten a prime version of Dariusz?

    I know all about Dariusz-Gonzalez.

I only referred to it to highlight how poor your logic was.

You said that you think Ottke would have beaten Roy, because he beat Glen Johnson who beat Roy. I then said that in that case, Roy would have beaten Dariusz, because he beat Gonzalez who beat Dariusz.

I was just highlighting the ridiculous way in which you debate.

    The Gonzalez fight means nothing.

Like I've said many times, you simply have to be trolling to use that kind of logic.
