My review of Kelly Pavlik for those who have not seen him more than once.

I don't think the reputation is undeserved at all; the love in these parts for certain (white?) middleweight phenoms may be the exception that proves the rule.

 

Can't help chuckling at the OP declaring themselves "ahead of the curve" on Pavlik having only seen three of his fights as of when he already had fought Taylor.

There were threads being made about him on a regular basis long before he fought JT. Pavlik vs. Miranda was hugely anticipated for a non-title fight and was considered by most the "real" main event of that HBO WCB broadcast, rather than an expected snoozer in Taylor vs. Spinks ...literally everybody knew who Pavlik was by the time this thread was made.

 

You had posts all over the place.

 

Pavlik had size, two-fisted power and was an excellent finisher, but he was very basic and average outside that in every other regard imo; I picked Hopkins to beat him much as he did iirc. That said, I picked Kelly to beat Taylor and was glad when he did; I liked him overall and Taylor had looked crap against Ouma and Spinks as well as being lucky as feck to scrape a draw with Wright.

It was shame about Pavlik's issues outside the ring, I always thought he came across as down to earth and likeable in interviews and such.

 

Pavlik is an alcoholic.

 

Tito Trinidad done better against Joppy than Pavlik did against Taylor.
