I don't rate Wilder, but Ortiz is no 'monster' or 'bogeyman'.

Nearly 70 fights between them and the top 5 are.....

    Stiverne, Jennings, Duhaupas, Thompson, Scott?

You could argue that it's been harder for Ortiz to get fights......but he hasn't helped himself with the 2 drug charges.

There's nothing from either resume for either to be proud of.

Disagree. The first Stiverne fight was a solid top 10 scalp for Wilder. His only one. And the Jennings fight was a solid scalp for Ortiz. Ortiz is a Cuban defector though. Probably add 5-10 years to his age to get his real age. He hasn't looked good at all recently. As a matter of fact, he looks more like the typical Wilder opponent now, than a top contender. Maybe this fight will light a fire under him and he will give us a good fight though. We will see.

I really don't get why people have thought Ortiz hasn't looked good lately, not quite sure what they're hoping to see but he's looked pretty good to me - even if maybe not quite as devastating as he has in the past. He's been totally in control of his fights and looking at the level he should be, taking no unnecessary risks etc.

    We'll get an idea soon.

Yup. Ortiz is not only old - and probably quite older than his stated age of 38 - but he's painfully slow. He has the pop to take advantage of Wilder's fragile chin, but he has to land first. Could happen, but the odds are against it.

I agree, but at least Ortiz is a top 10 fighter. Wilder IMO will win this via UD, but finally he's stepping up a little bit. He ought to fight guys like Ortiz each and every fight if he wants to prove he is a legit belt holder.

Stiverne was not a top ten fighter! WBC made him top because of Don King......................gave Wilder an easy fight with a sick fighter..................Ortiz is supposed to be 38, almost 39, but most claim he is really almost 50. Wilder will never fight Ortiz if he was a real threat. Breazeale is waiting to sub in case Ortiz looks good in training, but word it that Ortiz is just too old, the blood pressure medicine is making him sick, not to mention Lipitor and other meds......................if Ortiz lands a lucky punch, Ortiz will be framed, so there is no way Ortiz can win the fight, he is fighting a Haymon fighter, WBC will not allow him to win.......................

How can you say he looks like a typical wilder opponent when the guy hasn’t lost a round in years?

Great common whilst his performances haven’t set the world on fire if any other HW other than AJ or Wilder had those types of performances people would be raving about them.

He pretty much dominated Jennings, who is a solid opponent.

How many other HWs would be able to handle Jennings in the manner he did?

If THAT Ortiz is still there, it could be an interesting night

If they did what Jennings did and stand right in front of him, trading power punches then not many. Fact is Jennings came in with a terrible game plan, he isn't a puncher with only 12 stoppages to his name and traded shots with one of the hardest hitters in the division.

The Ortiz that fought Scott was the same as the Ortiz that fought Jennings, only difference was Scott didn't stand toe to toe with Ortiz like an idiot. How many have beaten Scott more convincingly that Ortiz did?

I mean it all depends on how you define a boogeyman in the sense of a Mike Tyson esque animal who blows fighters out of the water. Or an awkward, cuban southpaw with decent power and punch variety. Like Lomachenko could be defined as a boogeyman and he doesn't have one punch knockout power but is a masterful boxer overall.

Ortiz has good timing, good footwork and is a southpaw.

It's gonna be tough for Wilder and i see him being out boxed early and again his get out of jail card will be his power. I think Ortiz will drop Wilder but i think Wilder TKO Ortiz mid to late rounds.

I think Ortiz will tire and Wilder will be the fresher getting the late TKO after a barrage of shots. Wilder goes down in this fight i think but survives.

    Well, not many?
    Scott only has 3 losses.
Ortiz, Wilder and Chisora, and although he didn't KO Scott he won every round and a couple of KDs

That's as decisive as a KO to be honest

Nobody's beaten Scott more convincingly apart from Wilder, who many believe he took a dive against. Scott should have been counted out in round 6 after losing every round to Ortiz.
