Small hands in terms of punching is not totally a bad thing. Smaller hands can be more likely to deliver knockouts due to basic physics. The smaller the contact point with the same force behind it will in turn create greater pressure than the bigger hands. However in boxing you wear gloves which then negates this, and yes bigger hands will offer more protection. Therefore in terms of boxing with gloves then bigger hands are a benefit. If your taking injuries out the equation then smaller hands without gloves can more destructive.
The correlation is true, massive big boned hands are usually the hands of powerful boxers, but that not because wear & tear, its associated with genetics & by effect testosterone/temperament. A guy with delicate pianist hands will not have the killer instinct to do what needs to be done in the ring. The whole Blizzy hands meme is also true, Women (who are already mature & experienced) tend to judge men by phenotype traits, the hands tell a lot about the nature of human, that is why fortune readers can guess many things by looking at the hands & eyes. Large hands mean High-T, which is a trait sought in men out by the majority of women, as its an indication of strength & access to resources from a Lithic POV, which is still accurate among athletes
Thai and Pinoy fighters have not lost the forgotten art of hand conditioning. Pacman nailed a rubber sandal to a palm tree and pounded it repeatedly when he was young to build rock hard hands. (he also has naturally huge hands, wrists, forearms)
For every upside there is a downside like most most things.Lots of potential downsides to bigger hands , A big hefty hand is going to not only be slower to throw but also slower to pull back once you have thrown it to cover up your face again or when throwing combinations. It will also be more tiring to keep a pair of big heavy hands held up in front of your face for 12 rounds. Missing a punch with heavy hands will also be more tiring , You may not think that's a big deal but you notice the same thing wearing big gloves in sparring and little gloves, in a 12 round fight at the elite level its a game of inches it all make a difference.
Hey Blizzy, Don't pretend you never saw this thread you small handed peanut headed pervert. No offense dude, just kidding with your scragly insect infested beard. Lmao
same problem. i have proportionately small, delicate hands, but my right hand has crooked fingers and crooked knuckles, scars from stitches and a variety of of other lacerations, while my left hand looks like a female construction workers hand. i only ever threw my left to freeze my opponent, so i could drop a right with all my weight behind it, after that i would rain hard right hands till something broke or he was done... i also have unusually fast hands, so it wasnt hard to carry out that fight plan against untrained fighters. and yes, i am also living proof that small hands often mean the opposite of what the stereotype would have one believe.
