How would Chris Byrd have done against today`s top heavies?

    But he wasn't a lower tier heavyweight.

    He was actually the #1 heavyweight in the world briefly.

    Most of them really.

    At one point you had three of the four belts held by Peter, Ibragimov, and Chagaev, which was very depressing.

    I'd say he would be rated by most below Wlad, Vitali, Evander, Mike, George, Lennox, Ike, Tua despite the draw and Moorer .. some might add Mercer, Morrison and half a dozen others .. Byrd was an under appreciated, over looked fighter at heavyweight. His style was not exciting. He was viewed as more of a spoiler than anything else his strange win over Vitali aside .. my point is at cruiser he could have built up a big reign, maybe dominated and moved up as something special .. Bruce Seldon was a champ for thirty seconds too ..

    As much of a fan of Byrd as I am, I feel he really falls short as an athlete to the top fighters. His style is one I will always favour and admire, he's a very good technician, but I think he fell short in the physical attributes and that's why I don't see him beating any more than half of the top 10.
