2 of the Best from the light middle division .Would Terry's hard , fast work rate smash thru wright ..or would it be another boxing master class from "Winky"?
Not if Norris fights off the backfoot. Wright liked to shell up but Norris was fast enough to counter and exploit the small opening when wright opened his shell and extended the Jab. Make winky reach and overextend with his jab and straight left by using his superior footspeed and movement, then counter and exploit the opening. Good fight. Not sure who wins.
I will take Norris. (Barring a bizarre disqualification) Norris was a far superior boxer and puncher to Winky. Furthermore, Winky doesn't have the punch or style to take advantage of Norris' weak chin. Winky is becoming wildly overrated these days. He did an excellent job of persevering with his conservative style and putting some good names on his resume once those name fighters were over the hill. But, he beat almost no truly elite fighters in their prime. And he had all he could handle from limited club fighter Bronco McCart when Winky was in his own prime. Norris UD.
..That's it in a nut shell Clinton! WW would have showcased that superb style of his and would have dominated with his very fine southpaw jab...confusing and frustrating Norris all night long.
I've stated I'm a fan of Norris ..but I'm totally agreeing with this I'm afraid. I don't see Norris been KO'd for a change ,but he'd lose by a wide decision , Winky would be in total control.
It's actually the other way around. Terry's mobility and combinations would be a big problem for Wright. I think he wins an 8-4 UD.
Some wildly different opinions in this thread, I'm digging it. I can actually see it going either way, as I don't think either was a particularly more capable fighter than the other... They were on very similar levels in my mind. Wright was a bit more durable but part of that is his style.
Sounds good except for the fact that Winky uses his feet to position himself to LAND his jab. Terry fights off the backfoot and Winky obliges him.
Welcome to the forum Bert. I believe this forum, full of knowledgeable fans, make it seem like Winky is overrated. However, I think he’s underrated, under appreciated and it takes die hard boxing fans to recognize (acknowledge) what a stylistic nightmare he was with what you call a “conservative” style. Also, why did Oscar never fight Winky? Don’t you think that would’ve been a good win for DLH to be able to say he beat the guy that Mosley couldn’t solve?
I don't think Oscar's heart was in boxing at the point at which Mosley lost to Wright. He was looking for big money fights only. And Winky was never a big money opponent. I would pick the version of Oscar that beat Vargas over ANY version of Winky Wright. Not saying it wouldn't be close. But, just can't see Winky winning. The performances of Mosley, Trinidad, and Quartey against Winky hardly resembled what those fighters looked like in their primes. And, although I agree that Winky is a skilled spoiler, I don't think his tactics/skill set would have achieved a victory over those men in their primes. Just like it didn't work against any of the elite fighters he fought when they were prime (Vazquez, Vargas, Simon,..)
Super defence. Great jab off of the front foot. GRANITE ****ing chin. Naturally the same size if not bigger than the often fighting smaller men Norris. Winky's southpaw stance. Plus Winky's very high boxing IQ as opposed to the boxing intellectually challenged Terry. Im afraid Norris is in for a long night against Winky.
