Could Hasim Rahman have ripped the title from Frazier?

Just keep reading after the first five words...

 

Frazier by KO/TKO.

Rahman had punch, but was very basic in every other possible way. Slow, average skills, low ring IQ, average chin.

He could box, don't get me wrong, but he wasn't an outstanding fighter.

it was lennox who was a bit sloppy and too much of a thinker at times. frazier was too dumb to lose.

 

The Frazier of the Stander fight would be in for a tough night.The Frazier of FOTC wins.

Joe chugs forward, slips Rahmam's jab consistently and gets inside. He goes to work on the inside and outworks Rahman. As was often the case, Rahman gasses late and Joe pours it on for a late rounds tko.

I sometimes dislike how certain parts of the classic forum can't give any credit to the more modern fighters of a proposed fantasy match-up. I don't think an older fighter is going to inherently just beat a new one, or vice versa, there are positives and negatives about every fighter.

Rahman had plenty of flaws but wasn't a bad fighter. He accomplished plenty in his own era and showed good attributes like one punch knockout power, a long, hard jab and plenty of grit. A stoppage win against the same, hell an even fresher and younger version of Corrie Sanders, the guy who blasted a young Wladimir Klitscko out and was avoided by most top heavyweights of the time.

True. Rahman wasn't bad or unskilled boxer. Basic, yes, but that was enough to outbox David Tua, and stop Corrie Sanders. Oh, and shocking upset vs Lewis.

He won't be a 'Stander' vs Frazier, cause Stander is levels below in terms of skills.

I see him lacking something to beat Joe though, Rahman's left hook wasn't nearly as good as his right hand, and his uppercut was unimpressive. So he needs to land these straight right hands on Joe's chin, but will he?

 

It's nice to see both fighters in a contest respected.

 

Rahman at best has as much success as Bonavena did. Flooring Frazier early, but that's it.

 

I dunno why TF people keep saying that Rachman was a big puncher. It's very untrue. This is a guy who went the distance with Obed Sullivan, and in TWO fights could never dent the glass chinned Oleg Maskaev. Maskaev had one of the worst chins in heavyweight history, and Rock could never do serious damage to him. Explain that.

Don't base his power off the Lewis fight.... Lennox's overconfident ass literally JUMPED right into that right hand with his chin in the air.

Frazier would have no trouble handling Rock's punch. Rachman isn't even REMOTELY CLOSE to Formeman's power.

 

I think he could do as good as Bonavena

 

Bonavena possessed a degree of skill and in-ring savy that Rahman definitely did not have. Though between the two Rahman would have an obvious strength advantage over both Frazier and Bonavena. He was an absurdly strong man.
