His cash cow already took a L But the corrupt sport protected him and his cow No matter what his persona says, he knows as well as - maybe even more than - us forum posters who won that fight @Birmingham Oscar came into promoting with all the right ideals. He had no need for money. As a fighter he fought the best, no A side BS He goes into promotion a very rich man... only to suddenly becomes the polar opposite of what he wanted to be? Cocaine or corruption??
What are all these examples of Oscar babying his people to an unreasonable degree? Canelo dropping his belt instead of just fighting G.... fair enough. One example. Lemieux just fought an obviously bad matchup against Saunders. That was not an advisable fight and yet they made it anyways. They could have easily done another showcase fight for Lemieux or at least a more winnable legit matchup and waited to match him up with Canelo while the Lemieux stock was still relatively high. Instead they made a very good middleweight elimination bout. Canelo has fought Lara, Trout, Mayweather, Cotto and Golovkin in the last 10 fights. I have been very critical of Canelos opposition when he fought Khan, Smith and Chavez back to back to back. But lets not pretend he doesnt have one of the best resumes in boxing today with more than one fight taken that fans didnt think he would actually take at the time. Matthysse fighting Ruslan was supposed to be a savage, take from both guys's careers fight, that oscar made because it was a FOTY type fight. Luckily for Lucas his skills made it onesided. But they could have made other easier fights for Lucas at the time. Postol was generally an evenish fight.... Matthysse being a slight favorite but not much against a guy who had very little name recognition at the time. That was a needlessly tough matchup for one of Oscars few remaining stars. The guy only has had 3 (4 if you count Linares) big names in the last few years and 2 of the 3 have had their stock significantly dropped due to tough matchmaking.... but he somehow is babying his stable? And you guys think hes somehow worse than Bob Arum or Al Haymon?
All of them are crooks, but I wasn't talking about that. Oscar is the worst promoter out of the famous ones for several reasons. He doesn't even have good fighters apart from Alvarez, he rarely makes good fights either. He advised his best fighter to vacate belt to duck prime Golovkin, which is one of the most shameful things a fighter could do. Alvarez is a warrior who isn't the type of person to duck anyone, but Oscar gave him a bad name. And I could go on...
Obviously he's made good fights. No one is denying that Kirk. Like i said, he went in to promoting saying he was going to change things for the better. He had the money, the personality, and the power to do things neither Arum nor Haymon have the ability to. And instead, he didn't do jack but hire a guy who essentially took his stable from him.
Matthysse vs Garcia, Ruslan, Postol Canelo vs Cotto, Golovkin, Mayweather, Lara, Trout Lemieux vs Golovkin, Saunders, Stevens, Those are his three biggest names.... you dont consider those good fights?
Out of curiosity, besides Canelo vacating his belt, what specifically would you have wanted oscar to do drastically differently in the last 4 or 5 years. Im genuinely curious. Obviously there are things he could have done better I am just curious as to what you specifically have in mind that you think he completely failed at, outside of Canelo vs Golovkin. I think hes walked the line between owing it to his fighters to do well by them, and also giving the fans exciting fights, and also meaningful legacy fights. He certainly could have matched his biggest names in a much more advisable and less dangerous way (which resulted in him pretty much losing 2 of his 3 biggest names). So just wondering what specific moves to you take issue with outside of the Golovkin fiasco.
Most of these were good fights, yes. But I also mentioned farces like the Khan, Liam Smith, Chavez Jr fight which conned the public. And whose fault is that Oscar doesn't have more big names? Only his fault, he simply isn't good as a promoter. That is part of the reason I called him the worst out of the major promoters.
He's not quite a cancer, but a benign tumor that you can live with, Haymon is an incurable malignancy, Arum is one you'll go life and death with, and even if you're cured, there's a 70% chance it'll come back.
You're a blinded fanboy who can't see the wood from the trees. Loma to you is completely beyond any criticism or blame. This is how the conversation went down regarding May 12th "The first thing I asked him was, 'What's the date you guys are contemplating' and he said, 'May 12th'. I said, 'That's not going to work. We'll fight any other date - except May 12th. We already have plans for May 12th.'" Arum said - no thanks , bye bye. Tell me why Loma and Arum can't be one bit flexible when it comes to a fight that will make Loma the Man at 135? Its Arums job to make the fights , not to walk away from them. Why didn't / wouldn't he negotiate on the date? Whats a few weeks diference ? Nothing. Arum is more to blame here than GB from a neutral perspective.
Arum eyed April 28th or May 12th for Lomachenko - Linares, neither of these two dates were good for Golden Boy. This content is protected
