It is officially officially official. 4/14 in Vegas on ESPN. 10 rounds, presumably at welterweight.

This will be Pacquiao's first scheduled 10-rounder in over 15 years, since he fought Serikzhan Yeshmagambetov in 2003. Yeshmagambetov, a tuneup sandwiched between two IBF super bantamweight title defenses, knocked Pacquiao down in the fourth round before getting stopped in the fifth.

Meanwhile, for Alvarado - whose last 4 bouts since the rubber-match with Brandon Rios over three years ago have been scheduled for ten or less (thrice for 8 rounds) - this represents a 'second chance', having been promised a fight with Pacquiao if he were to have come out victorious in his trilogy bout with Rios.

Pacquiao reportedly told Arum he wanted Matthysse instead, but Arum said "too bad".

I think Pac might actually get the stoppage here.... Alvarado is completely spent.

Jesus, Manny is on an absolute tear of the C level welterweight list. Who's next, Andre Berto, Adrian Granados, or a rematch with Brandon Rios after Garcia?
He was never the solution to the Mayweather problem and Bob Arum is killing whatever legacy he has left.
After all this time Manny is still not a full grown man in charge of his own destiny. He likes Arums hand up his ass puppeteering his life.

Sadly I'd prefer any of those matches to this one.

Yeah, he probably should have taken Rios III as his cue to exit stage left... I guess he's still looking dangerous enough in his WW comeback, albeit vs. C+ level guys...(that Brazilian that he KTFO on the Crawford vs. Indongo undercard, for instance, was a nobody but it still made a lot of people's knockout of the year shortlists)

Credit to Pac for requesting Matthysse, who looked pretty shot himself vs. Kiram but probably has more left than Alvarado...not to mention being more dangerous to begin with.

30 consecutive 12-rounders for Pac...that has to be close if not actually some kind of record - and it will stand at 30, as this bout with Alvarado is officially breaking the streak.

Just checked and even Mayweather only had 26 in a row, from Chico through McGregor (Augustus was a 10-rounder).

You know Pacquiao has always fought whoever his promoter puts in front of him. That's just how he is. He doesn't get involved with anything else boxing wise besides him fighting. Pacquiao didn't even know who Jeff Horn was before they fought.

It's interesting though that it was Murad Muahmmad and not Arum who got Pacquiao all his biggest fights. He was the promoter that got him Barrera, Marquez and Morales. Though in fairness getting Marquez was easy as that guy would fight any big name back then who didn't avoid him.

Pacquiao has never had a KO above 145 pounds. He couldn't even KO Jeff Horn or Chris Algieri. I doubt we will see a KO here.

Arum is trying to goad Madiana out of retirement as we speak.

They need someone who can make Manny look great. They want Manny to come out and beat the hell out of Alvarado like it's 2007 so they can say "he's back!". Then Crawford destroys Jeff Horne (the guy who beat Manny) on the main event.

This gets casuals interested in Crawford vs Manny. Crawford retires Manny easily and is Arum's new cash cow.

    That's the plan anyway.
