I actually think this is a really good fight. Pacman was so fast and accurate with his trail hand that he could cause Hearns issues with his angles and pop. Being so small yet quick could allow him to get in under Tommy. I could see Pac winning and making Tommy desperate until Tommy nails him coming in which would likely happen as Hearns was a great fighter and had great timing. Good fight
if Hearns sat back and jabbed and waited to land a good punch he takes out Manny rather easily. If JMM could do it on a fluke, Hearns would do it no problem.
I mean, he can land a Hail Mary shot before Hearns does it but I don't think it could happen, Hearns was just too good at 147 and 154, he was unlucky enough to meet Ray Leonard who is probably one of the 2 or 3 fighters in history that can beat him there.
Imagine this scenario being brought up in 2008. I am not a particular fan of Pacquiao, but him being put in a ring with Tommy Hearns, in a somewhat close scenario, puts his accomplishments into perspective when you think of what he was 10 years ago.
It's not as lopsided as people are making it out to be. I would also make Hearns a favorite, and that is where my money would be. But a prime Pac, with his fast hands, fast feet (use of angles) and awkward southpaw style could trouble Tommy in some scenarios
Hearns did not fight Duran at WW and Pacman would not be standing still in front of Hearns with his back against the ropes. 147 Hearns was drawn and weak. A flush counter off Pacquaio would knock him spark out. Manny runs through Cuevas like a blow torch tru candy floss. You need a back foot game to defuse and out box Manny and Hearns didn't have a good one. The fight is an utter mismatch.@154 Hearns would do better and win by savage stoppage
Indeed - it's just I felt Cuevas did a better job, as the natural welterweight, than Duran could manage against a supremely confident Hearns at 154. I was also referring to the manner of the TKOs. Christodoulou was allowing Cuevas to continue when his corner stepped in (wisely, I might add), whilst Duran went down like a felled tree, with no hope of continuing. Fine lines, I know. But, I align Pacquiao's predicament with Duran's; more so than I do with that of Cuevas.
Keep in mind that Hearns left welter at 22 .. after his loss to Leonard .. he had not yet learned to clinch when hurt and his paper thin body was vulnerable to body shots .. he also had a tough thirteen round victory over Rndy Shields that showed him less than invulnerable at 147 .. that being said odds are he puts a hurting on Manny but one never knows ..
