Maybe, I believe Jacobs beats him, Lemieux can really punch but Jr takes a solid shot so he might be able to survive and out last him. What else can he do? He isn't a Super Middleweight, he is out of the WBSS, he has no "world title", he isn't beating Golovkin, Canelo or BJS on last nights evidence, so he needs opponents with a name and profile he has a chance against.
agreed he needs a big name but not people with such power. Both would be great fights but Jacobs UDs him and Lemieux almost certainly KOs him, IMO. Granted he looked terrible against BJS, but CEJ is a lot easier to hit. I’d be searching boxrec top 40-50 looking for a good stylistic match up, someone like porky medina maybe? He had a great scrap with Benavidez last year. And I’d favour CEJ to to win a very entertaining fight.
Lemieux is a clown of a boxer, Eubank would destroy him. Eubank's jab, angles, speed, output all far better than plodder Lemieux. Lemieux has very basic boxing skills and it takes elite boxing to beat Eubank. Does anyone really think Lemieux punches harder than Groves?
Come on CFT.. "Eubanks Jab"? "Eubanks Angles"? Does he have either? I haven't seen them and I certainly didn't see them last night. I'm beginning to think Jr is a bit of a myth, it's like the old "A well prepared Kevin Mitchell", people keep saying what Jr can do but he never does it when it actually counts, when it is necessary or when he fights a top level fighter. There is a year in age between Groves and Jr, Jr isn't 21 years old, Jr isn't some young up and coming fighter. Jr is 29 years old this year so when is his peak? We are probably seeing it now, I believe this is about as good as it's going to get for him.
CEJ needs to stay at SMW, it's literally littered with low level opposition and most of them are on his side on the ocean. He would have to travel to the US for any of the 160 fights. Zac Dunn, David Brothy, Rocky Fielding, Jamie Cox, Rohan Murdock, Vincent Feigenbutz, DeGale, Truax, winner of Zuege-Expo, John Ryder Plenty of fights to make to bounce back.
Thoughts are what Eubank JR needs to do is wait for a year and fight non-elite boxers to build up his skills. He needs to stop looking for the KO, and go rounds. Eubank JR NEEDS a trainer, training yourself is only good for fitness but the nuances of boxing require far more than simply being fit and having an outstanding engine. It requires learning how to jab, how to use the feet to get inside, how to counter etc. Eubank SR needs to be kicked out of the camp, let the kid have his own trainer and let him be his own man. His dad is an unneccessary distraction who tries to make everything all about him, he can't bear that his son has the limelight. JR starts slow then puts everything into every punch, against head movement like Groves you become predictable and the tieing up and inside fighting JR struggled to be effective when Groves nullified him. JR needs to use the jab, learn how to mix-up the punch power. Jolting jabs really offset Eubank JR, what he struggled with was head movement when Groves starting using the jab - he needs to learn how to counter over the jab or not be such a static target. Eubank JR will come back, and he has the potential but he can't do it alone if he takes his time and gets a proper trainer, and tells his dad to take a back seat the lad will come good again, but the acid test will be against a good boxer who knows how to jab and use his feet.
Eubank can face the winner of Tyron Zeuge - Isaac Ekpo and become a WBA champ in his very next fight! LOL that's how weak 168 is.
For Eubank Jnr, he isn't a super middleweight. He never will be a Super Middleweight. The last few years the top middleweights seem to be big, big welterweights in body proportion, where as the top super middleweights seem to be boiled down light heavyweights. Recently there always looks to be a big difference in size when somebody steps up - last night was no exception and Groves used the advantage fully and masterful. Eubank Jr needs a proper trainer, and to drop back to middleweight.
Lack of a game plan was evident. Needs a trainer and a new tact. Has certain ingredients in abundance but lacks fundamentals.
Honestly don't think eubank needs to do much different. Just needs to get back down to middleweight. Even average super middles will nullify his strengths. He can't bridge the weight gap well enough. Very few can tbh. We,ve all said brook will struggle against champions up at 154. The majority of post on here the other day saying groves has no chance at light heavy. Most said jack would do little at light heavy. And yet no one says its down to their technical ability. But when it comes to eubank its all about technical ability. And yet the real truth is all of the above will struggle to nullify that extra weight/natural size of the opponent just like eubank struggled with groves,s last night. He will have success as a middleweight tho. Just not against golovkin, Jacobs or Canelo. Just happens to be a nitemare division at the top of the tree for anyone. His career as a serious fighter is over if he stays in that super middle division tho. Needs to drain down like everyone else is doing.
I think groves should start thinking about his retirement soon. Only 3 or 4 fights left in him worth taking depending how it goes for him. Callum smith next when he,s recovered. That is if smith beats braemer. After that it should be degale. Regardless of if degales finished or whatever there's still a good bit of money to be made from it for both of them. After that maybe a last fight against jack up at light heavy. Outside of them three fights its not really worth it for groves. He's starting to outgrow the division. It,ll be harder if hes out injured for a while. He's had a pretty long career. The other belt holders don't bring much money to the table. He could potentially walk away with a great career. Beat smith, degale and jack. Not much left to do really. Just need to make super middle two more times...then up at light heavy for a last hurrah.
I'd actually like to see Groves retire soon also, your plan above bbjc, Smith, DeGale and Jack would be terrific. If Smith wins ofcourse his semi final fight, that's a tough fight, I don't rate him that highly I think he lacks variety and doesn't adapt well enough but he is skilled. If he won that id expect Groves to beat DeGale, he might even retire after that, but there the two money fights. He will be set for life now surely after winning last night and getting a purse from the final win or lose? Didn't Kalle say the winners purse for the fight last night was a considerable amount of money?
Yeah totally agree on smith. Don't rate him as highly as some do although he might pose groves problems. Still think groves gets a little too macho on the inside. Not sure hooking with smith is a good idea. But if groves plays it smart he should win it comfortably. Same for degale. Jack would be the cherry on top if he could manage to get the win. I,d happily watch groves for the next 3 or 4 years....but its about getting out at the right time in boxing. Struggling to do the weight is gonna get even harder. More than capable of beating them 3. Although that jack fight is 50/50 for me. Rate jack pretty highly. Get out with a big bag of money. Faculties intact. With a very good CV who,s been entertaining to watch over the years. Can't say better than that really. Just a pity from his perspective the froch 2 fight and obviously the sadness over gunecht...which obviously wasn't his fault.
