Eubank gets out boxed for a portion of the fight. But half way through Groves gets dropped by a wild over hand right .He gets up , survive s but doesn't regain his composure .Eubank goes in to aggressive attack mode for a few round s but fails to get another kd .Eubank win's by split decision .
I'm not so sure about that. Snr couldn't stop much lesser fighters than Groves at SMW such Ray Close, Mauricio Amaral, Dan Schommer etc.
groves win, SD. prime eubie that is. groves would stop the faded eubie that had no title or recent SMW success.
Right now, Groves might just have a fair claim to being the best SuperMiddle in the world (with respect to the untested Ramirez). But I think that SMW is one of the weaker divisions currently. Especially when compared with the divisions immediately surrounding it. I think Eubank Sr would do Groves on points.
The problem with Eubank in fantasy match-ups is that he was so inconsistent. He was good enough to stop Benn and Watson, end Rocchigiani's 35 fight unbeaten streak, and give Carl Thompson hell at cruiserweight. On the flipside he was lucky to get past fringe-contender types like Schommer, Close, Amaral and Sherry. Groves is clearly superior to all of them. Groves has the style to trouble Eubank, and the size to not get bullied up close. Groves' best chance would probably be to execute a Degale style gameplan, minimise the exchanges and nick a dull decision. Despite not possessing a great KO ratio, Eubank had a flair for the dramatic (Watson II, Close I, Collins I). His big fights often turned into wars, whereas his lesser fights were often drab affairs. With Eubank you have someone who was able to drag people into wars and turn a fight with one punch. Groves can be dragged into a war and has been vulnerable in the later rounds. When you put that equation together I feel that Eubank overcomes an early round deficit and either stops Groves late or pulls it round on the scorecards with a late round knockdown.
I don't think anyone can think that Eubank Sr. is the same as Eubank Jr. I like both, but Eubank Sr. was an exceptional fighter and a warrior. I think he stops Groves without too much trouble. I think Eubank Sr. beats Froch by decision.
