Don't know all the details but I'll take your explanation as correct...but...had they come out immediately and put the fight in the Astrodome (recall George's two defenses (Roman-Norton) were out of the United States it would seem only fitting that the Champion could warrant a 'homecoming' of sorts in his backyard. Lastly, IMO, despite Mobutu's input, I would guarantee that fight would have been moved to another site, favoring Ali's chances, had the Astrodome been initially considered.

 

IMO, it was better that Ali (Clay at the time) won at the time and 'enry had a story to tell his grandbabies. I don't think so, Ali was seen as becoming a back number .The ropes could have seriously hurt Ali.had he gone through them and out of the ring. Bobby Goodman and Angelo shortened them and tightened them up he had no idea Ali was going to play "rope a dope ",in fact when he tried it for the first time Angelo had a real go at him when he came back to the corner .It's in Dundee's autobiography.
