Good post. Curry stayed too long at the weight and it caught up with him. Agree he didn't recover from the Honeyghan shellacking.

Nice list. Leonard probably wasn't far off shot against Norris either as he struggled immensely even trying to win a round. Norris looked sharp on the night tho.

Diego Corrales after the first Jose Luis Castillo. I didn't figure he was that gone going into the rematch.

Cuevas was the Champ, and stupidly took a defense against a dangerous opponent like Hearns in his own backyard of Detroit, instead of defending Cuevas' title down in Mexico. In the Hearns fight itself, per the post-fight Sports Illustrated article, Cuevas' corner told him just to box the first 2 rounds or so, to which Cuevas replied: "Right, and after that, I AM GOING to do something". But sadly, Cuevas never got that far.

Interesting pick because Chacon was coming off two war like wins over Limon and Edwards .. he was 32 or 33 but still beating terrific fighters .. Ray just overpowered him although I think the storage may have been a bit premature if I remember correctly ..

It may have been a case of him being rushed into the rematch.

He looked better in his next fight vs Casamayor, but was certifiably shot for Clottey.

Does Sonny Liston count? Going into Ali I, it was thought he'd steamroll Ali/Clay. Now some look at Sonny as having been an old man ready to be taken in February '64. Interestingly, Liston went 15-1 (14) after Lewiston and got as high as #3 in Ring's ratings and #2 in the WBA in 1969.

I believe the injury affected the first fight and in the second fight the was a legitimate knockdown followed by grossly incompetant refereeing.

Saad vs Qwai. Saad was slipping by then but Qwai destroyed him.

The wear and tear of the two wars with Bazooka and Boza definitely had an impact.

However, the Mancini win over Chacon was not really a case of Chacon being "shot" as much as Mancini was just much stronger physically. Chacon was no lightweight.

Often the good bigger man beats the good smaller man.

See Wilfredo Gomez v. Carlos Zarate, for example.

Cooney vs. Norton - knew Norton was close to the end of his career, but didn't realize he had nothing left at all.

    Saad vs Braxton 2
    Cokes vs Napoles 2

    Nino Ben. vs Monzon 2.
Nino had lost to Jose Roberto Chirino
a 18-4-4 fighter by MD, just 2 months
before the Monzon 2 debacle. Somehow
Nino got an ABCs sanctoned rematch by
    losing his last fight.
