Reading between the lines of Franks latest IFL interview...

He has a rematch clause against Truax.

He’s a free agent again. Frank would like to be involved in the rematch but highlights if the figures are right.

Looks like he’s back to being a road warrior. Fight will be on US soil and it may not even be on U.K. tv. - just assumptions from me.

From a TV point of view i think there will be interest but cant say the same in terms of promotion.

Honestly not interested in DeGale at all now. Used to be a fan but hes looked so poor since beating Dirrel. Medina and Bute were far more competitive than what they should of been, i thought he lost the jack fight by a couple of rounds and a 50/1 underdog in Truax he should of DESTROYED

There’s no way Frank is going to pay to stage that fight- I doubt Eddie would be interested either. Haymon will have to stick it on a PBC card.

I still think there is value in the fight for someone like sky... whether it’s enough for Degales ego I doubt it.

Expect it back on bt to be honest

Can't believe he lost that fight. He's lost him and Groves millions if Groves beats Smith.

If Degale wins the rematch (which is probable as I cannot see him being that bad again) and If Groves loses to Smith, which is a possibility particularly if he is rushed with that shoulder. Do you think there is any possibility Degale would fight Groves?

Obviously, the kind of fella Degale is he'd demand stupid percentages of the purse so would probably put Groves off anyway.

I have to admit that despite always wanting to see a rematch my interest is dying now because Degale looks to have declined.

Degale is in a good position, truax rematch which he should win and then the groves/smith winner. If that falls through there is unfinished business with Eubank Jr

I think it would be a good undercards fight on Bellew v Haye but there won't be enough to pay for it as DeGale thinks he's worth more than he is and the new champ will want a nice wedge (don't blame him). I also agree I had Jack beating DeGale too.

I would expect the rematch to end up on UK tv. It's a World Title fight, a comeback fight, a fight to avenge a loss and deGale is a former Olympic and World champion and still one of Britain's most well known active boxers.

If he wins the belt back there are obviously options for him after that.

It just depends on whether he's shot or not. He doesn't look or sound great to me but we'll see...

Eubank Junior will be sniffing round these two like a stray dog he is now seen as a low risk high value opponent.

I agree. the way he’s always linked to Groves he’s more relevant now than he has been for a while. The hatred for junior and just the general buzz around and amount of quality British middle and super middleweight fighters in general there's enough fresh motivation for him to come again maybe and get a good win...

This one was a bit of a short sighted signing for Frank from the start to be honest. He wanted stupid money for a one off fight and there was no clear route where he was going next. All the top fighters in the division (well, best paying fights) were tied up in the tournament, even if Degale had won then who was he fighting next? The Truax fight was meant to be a tune up so what next? Another tune up as the loser of Eubank/Groves weren’t going to be ready until June anyway and the winner not ready until September time. I think Frank was just desperate to land a big name without seeing the bigger picture.

Selby on the other hand was a great signing. Warm up fight then on to a massive fight with Warrington then you’ve got Frampton vs the winner.

Selby is the away fighter in this fight he's no not with Frank but agree with logic of him having his last fight with Frank.

The rematch idea probably deserves a seperate thread to be fair!

For me Groves has improved over the last couple of years under McGuigan, he rebuilt after the Jack loss and although the opposition hasn't been great, GG has established himself as aon of the top SMW.

Degale has looked awful since the Dirrell fight and I too thought he lost the Jack fight, he certainley came out of it in a mess, the loss to Truax has now completely ruined his career, the only way he recovers from that is to Knock him out in the rematch and look very good doing it.

Groves has beat him twice already and know looks the much better fighter...
There's no way Degales ego would sign up to a third fight and a third potential loss.

Groves will be WBC mandatory if he wins the tournament. Potential career outs for Groves:

    • Activate Mandatory and capture WBC (Benavidez)
    • Fight winner of Traux v DeGale and Capture IBF
    • Vacate titles at SMW. If Jack Beats AS then Legacy rematch at LHW or enter WBSS LHW.
