the WBSS tournament has always scored high in Terms of production value.........then why this lack of professionalism when it Comes to Alternates. instead of having a parallel alternate tournament of second raters, all they can come up with is single randomly picked Alternates?? that is unprofessional. after all, even had the Alternates been second raters, at least the public would have had a Chance to see them in Action.....thus Building their Profile. now Smith is fighting someone next to noone has ever seen or heard of. totally unprofessional. downright pathetic.
totally agree. How does this Dutch bloke suddenly get a shot at the final ? If Smith has an injury during the fight then suddenly he's in the final from absolutely nowhere ? It's gone from a decent tournament to a bit of a joke. Hopefully it will work out and we will see Smith v Groves. But agree the last few days has been what you'd expect from a tournament managed by someone on the bolivian marching powder. oh wait ....
You are nuts. their build up documentary videos, are second to none.. makes HBO/SHOWTIME pre-fight videos look like childs play... the light show is amazing around the ring, no cheap budweiser advertisements or other sponsors on the canvas.. Not to mention the epic 3 of their last fights - Usyk/Briedis, Gassiev/Dorticos, Eubank/Groves have been extremely entertaining, and epic... Come on man. Only issues I have with them is the ring announcer David Diamante, and also think that having the final in Jeddah Saudi Arabia is an absolutely HORRIBLE HORRIBLE IDEA. But I won't get into that, since I was banned for saying something bad about it last time...
It did become at least a little more professional and classy after Groves got rid of that idiot Eubank Jr.
And another cool thing about this years Super Series is no fighter has multiple fights lined up in their backyard like Ward did. I thought that was pretty cool and fair!
The 168 pound tournament also lacks A level talent. Froch's son George Groves, is probably going to win it.
Eubank is trash. Not at all. Groves at least looked like he belonged in the ring with Froch. Eubank looked like a straight up bum.
The only thing they could have done differently is to give the shot to one of the guys who lost in the first round of the tourney. Nothing else to do that won't hold up everything for X amount of months (I don't know what the timetable for the injury is). I do think they should have brought in a first round loser, maybe they tried and no bites. Also, remember the Super Six when Taylor bailed and Allan Green stepped in to face Ward in the second round. Then Kessler bailed thing and Glen Johnson stepped in for the third round. Pretty great alternates, those.
I thought they actually had alternates. Didn't they have the Gorilla Ryder vs Nielsen (KO5) fight for that exact reason? But maybe the very short notice was a problem.
