The top tier elite Muay Thai fighters and Kickboxers never turn over to MMA so you’ll never see them in the UFC unless they are women or HWs.

Quality MT fighters & Kickboxers are more likely to turn to boxing and contrary to popular belief many have done so with much success as over 47 boxing world champions from Thailand alone since 1960s are testament to. All except for Pone Kingpetch (WBA World Champion in 1962, World Champion WBC in 1963) had MT careers before moving to boxing and most had extensive MT careers of over 100 fights.

Usually HW divisions of both MT @ KB are the least technical and except for a few elite big men are usually very poor producing dull clumsy fights.

Good luck to Niecky, he’s a nice guy, an elite KB warrior who has had a bit of luck and will do his best plant a flag in the boxing world and give everyone a good fight.

 

Do you not think Buakaw will ever try UFC ?, I heard a while back he was training at Ju Jitsu , id love to see it just to see him landing some of his powerful kicks on an opponent.

 

No not really. Maybe he’ll do a one off when he can’t squeeze any more cash out of endorsements and TV appearances and is low on cash? But I think that boat sailed around 4 or years ago.

And just for the record Buakaw although an elite K1 fighter was never near an elite MT fighter. Never won a Raja or Lumpinee belt @ any weight. Only an Om noi stadium belt, which is good but not elite.

He will get annihilated in the UFC unless he is hiding a JuJitsu black belt somewhere or some wrestling pedigree. A few of the MT champions have tried in ONE FC but have not done well. There are also the cultural implications, with MMA still not largely excepted in Thailand and many view it as diluting the national sport. Kickboxing is really only a fraction of what is required to compete at the top tier of MMA.

Yes some of the Thai's ive spoken to rate Saenchai much higher , I still think Buakaw appeals to the casual fans in Thailand and Worldwide plus he comes across as a really nice guy.

Yep a few maybe 3 top Thais did try MMA but they were well at the end of their careers most notably the super entertaining Ramba Somdet but these guys are in theirs 30s when they moved over.

It’s true it’s cultural with many Thais see it as wrestling and pretty ugly. It was actually banned here around 5 years ago due to its supposed completion to MT as you said, but that’s typical small minded Thai political nationalist thinking that never got enforced anyway.

Buakaw did toy with the idea when he left Por Pramuk around 5 years ago and signed to a HK MMA outfight but except for a picture of him lying in a cage nothing ever came of it which I’m glad about. I wouldn’t want to him in MMA.

 

I agree with you internationally and because of what he achieved in K1 outside Thailand and due to Max & Thai fight what he’s done inside Thailand he does have mass appeal even though he was done a while ago.

Seanchi is a MT ATG a technical master unraveled by many since the Golden age of MT in the 80s and 90s. Not many people know he was the protégée of Olympic gold medalist in boxing Somluck Khamsing.
