Thats fine but were not talking about the bare knuckle fighting portion of his career. I am specifically discussing the M of Q rules portion of the career. If those records are incomplete perhaps you can add to the fights missing with researched facts to help answer the question.

And for the record you are proving my point. His record is next to zero against accomplished M of Q fighters. Instead it was comprised of challenges from local amateurs with zero professional M of Q experience. No one is questioning his ability as a bare knuckle fighter.

I do look forward to others posting here other than Janitor who believes that by repeating vague, detail free statements his fiction becomes proof .. Please add any other bouts that Boxrec left out.

Of the six selections above that I listed I rate Sullivan's opposition under Q of A far at the bottom. I'd say a Peter McNeely fought and defeated far better opposition.

To be honest with you, the body of evidence that you have overlooked is so vast, that I can't really do justice to it in a few posts.

The only way that you are going to get any sort of handle on this, is by reading one of the biographies.

Its not just that you have missed a few important things.

You have more or less missed everything!

I get it. I was just saying Sullivan didn't fight the best in his time, and he sometimes struggled a bit to beat the next tier down.

Mix in a short prime with injuries and alcohol, and you get the engine called John L. Sullivan. Maybe he could Lick Any Sonofabitch In The House...in his time.

No, you're being dishonest. How about we asses Larry Holmes, but only the 12 round portion of his career?
It was one title for both, and it was one career, if you're going to asses him, asses both
Yeah, and I'll find some of the lost silent films while I'm at it. I actually have found a few fights not on boxrec, but it's hard to find stuff this early.
Or, like him, accomplished bareknuckle boxer. Or fighters with experience, but who weren't notable enough to be well reported on. Stop pretending the records aren't incomplete, everyone knows they are incomplete.

More gibberish from the Sullivan troll and a few other troll alts but no one has come up with the top M of Q names that he defeated. Don't have the free time many of you do so I'll just keep an eye to see if any quality answers surface and otherwise let the usual last word freaks continue to play with each other .. :)

You will get all the quality answers you want if you simply read the g** d*** book!

This information is all out there, and some of these questions should have been done away with years ago!

In the spirit of moving things forward, I will propose the following:

Let's review a different Sullivan fight each week, using the information that is freely available.

I will create the thread, and write a brief post, summarizing relevant primary source material.

    Shall we say each Monday?

On a list that includes JL Sullivan, Foreman, Dempsey, and Louis, I hope the Butterbean you’re referring to is some little known nickname for Lennox Louis and NOT Eric Esch.
