How well do you think he would have done? Think he would've beat liston, quarry or ali?

If he had the mentality to put that Iron chin to use I'd favor him over Liston and Quarry. He'd still lose against Ali though. Too big and Too fast for Floyd. Or they have an FOTC/Thrilla in Manilla type fight. Depends on what goes through Floyd's head.

What if foreman did put his body weight on his shots? He should be in the jail for murder
What if holyfield was naturally bigger? Nobody would have beaten him the most of the times.
What if Ali was in the era of marciano? Rocky would not be undefeated.
    What if butterbean was slim?
What if my pitbull was not a dominant mother****er? I could go with him to any park like a normal person

Quarry, yes. A granite chinned Floyd probably doesn't get knocked down, and is able to take the fight more to Quarry and earn the decision both times round.

With Liston, even with an exceptional chin Floyd is still physically outmatched and would be taking flush, concussive punches from one of the most dangerous heavyweights in history. Having a Chuvalo chin doesn't mean you can just walk through everyone, and Chuvalo himself was stopped twice against big punchers even if he wasn't knocked off his feet. Floyd probably sticks around longer, but Liston still has the reach, physical strength and tools to do a number on him. I don't see the Homer Simpson scenario working with this one. Having a great chin sometimes means you just take a ridiculous beating a la Robinson-LaMotta VI.

I don't think chin was really an issue in the Ali fights. Ali is still better in most departments, as well as possessing an ATG chin in his own right. Floyd may last the distance, but it's not like Ali is going to fall apart just because he can't stop the other guy.

Let's not act like Patterson was anywhere near prime against Quarry or Ellis.

It's called a leash. I find it helps.

I think even with an iron Chin he'd lose to Liston. Sonny would have just kept on banging that jab out and smashing Floyd s face .plus I believe Floyd was intimidated by sonny , that would have played a part .With a iron Chin sonny stops Floyd in 7 rounds .

He'd have beaten Quarry and Liston....a Patterson who was a few years younger or with less wear and tear may have beaten Quarry anyway. He may have needed to be bigger to beat Ali, then again, he may have been able to bull his way inside Ali's reach like Chuvalo did.

IMO, Patterson was a better skilled fighter than Liston, but Liston's size and punching power is what did Patterson in. If Patterson could've taken Liston's shots, he probably would've prevailed. If Robinson at 154 pounds could take Marciano's punches, I'd pick him to beat Marciano, but since he couldn't, I'd pick him to convincingly lose.

If you look at the fight in slow motion, you'd see that Patterson made Liston miss a lot of jabs, even while being positioned right in Liston's line of fire. I think the only reason Patterson lost is because he couldn't take Liston's power once he did get hit. He had the skill to beat Liston, but not the chin. With his chin, he'd need a different style to beat Liston.

Maybe so , you've got a point about Floyd needing a different style to fight Sonny. I find it hard to imagine Floyd beating him with a iron Chin., but that's probably cos the actual fights ended the way they did .But with a solid Chin ..who knows , could be different entirely.

I think that Liston would still have taken him, based upon size and style, but that it would have been a much more competitive fight.

It probably doesn't make much difference to the Ali and Quarry fights.

The main difference is that he would probably never have lost to Johansen, and he might have takes some more ambitious title defenses.

Patterson to me didn't have a bad chin he just wasn't big enough to take heavyweight punches well. He came around at the time when heavyweights began to become bigger, he was really a light heavyweight built up into a heavyweight. Patterson is a remarkable fighter I think hes one of the very best fighters under 200 lbs of all time.

Yeah, between 175-200 lbs, the only fighter I would consistently favor over Patterson would be Marciano. Others could likely beat him, but they'd only be slight favorites that Patterson could also likely beat.

This needs to start becoming temp-ban worthy. So asinine.
