Cheers mate - an unexpected ban about signal theft again. Must say I really enjoyed the Ronnie Clark performance on Sat evening.
Think myself the time has come now for all pro fighters to have compulsory brain scans 2 weeks before and 2 weeks after fights. People will say fighters know the risks but the recent deaths and near deaths is now a serious health and safety issue that needs action. Eduard Gutknecht was badly injured against Groves, is still in a very bad way yet has been abandoned by promoter etc. I don't know how his promoter, manager, trainer and ref Terry O'Connor sleep at night. That fight being allowed to go to the final bell was an absolute disgrace given the sustained beating over 12 rounds. The dead and badly injured fighters are forgotten by most of the public within one month and nothing changes. The BBOC need to take head out of sand and address the issue before the Govt step in.
It’s only a small improvement, but I can’t help but think that if we had open judges scoring throughout a fight, a decision could be made (by corners or refs) about pulling a durable fighter out of a one-sided beating. When you’re so far behind on the scorecards, I can’t help but feel that it is wrong to rely on a freakish knockout punch to win, and this would give the referee a more objective, evidence based reason to stop a fight.
He won the fight. It had nothing to do with the referee not stopping the fight sooner. It was just unfortunate he was on the recieving end of hard flush shots which proved too traumatic for his brain The only thing which would have prevented him getting hit on the chin, - which is what usually occurs in nearly every fight - is if he either had a better defence, wore headgear or decided to have never boxed in the first place. All things which no one can be blamed for.
So as far as you are concerned it is OK for people to die and/or be seriously injured in the ring because they decide to fight and know the risks? This is happening far too frequently now to keep ignoring. Compulsory brain scans for all pro fights now is required in my book as this situation is unacceptable
Many good points only issue with scans 2 weeks before fight is many fighters take fights at short notice well within this period. If this was stopped cards would crumble all over the place and the support for boxing would dwindle in comparison to current levels. I do agree th there should be more scans maybe as part of a promoter licence each promoter has to have a mobile brain scanner at each bill and each fighter needs a brain scan on day of weight in and I suggest a urine test to see if water levels are good enough, to make sure there not to dehydrated Making weight. Pay for it all by taxing say 2-3% of total purse of any fighter getting 100k plus in a fight (money being spread between fighter manager and promoter).
Show me exactly where I said or implied those words, because I'm struggling to find it anywhere from my previous posts where it is mentioned that I'm happy to see fighters suffer and die. Head scans are not going to prevent someone getting punched in the head unless you wish to include headgears. It's the equivalent of making it compulsory for F1 drivers to go through further driving tests in an attempt to ensure there is no more car crashes on the circuit. It just isn't going to make that much of a difference unless they make turn to drastic measures such as limiting the speed on how fast the cars can go and put extra padding around the vehicle to slow it down. Likewise scans are not going to prevent damaged to brain which will inevitably occur during a fight when you are punching someone in the head unless you want to water down the sport to it being partial contact. As far as I'm aware there are already requirements for boxers are to have brain scans and take a period of time off after a fight.
When I read about the Mike Towell death, it was clear at the time that there is no requirement in place for pre fight brain scans. In fact Mike Towell was suffering headaches and asked his GP to send him for a Brain Scan and was told to take asprin FFS. Yes one punch can do the damage but it is bad that there are no proper checks of the brain before every fight.
It is happening more frequent now. The arguments will rage on though, should head guards be used etc etc. Nothing will change. Personally i would address the issue of the size of the gloves, and increase the weight for each weight category. One regular provider of them where all fits all in each weight division, no bespoke tailored.
Tyan Booth making an arse of himself on Twitter, doing everything possible to seem edgy and controversial.
Never watched the lad fight, had never heard of him, but this actually made international headlines and popped up atop my smartphone's news feed. This content is protected ****, that's gutting. Hard as fans to reconcile that what he said in the interview pretty much corresponds with exactly the virtues we hold most dear in a fighter, yet those very philosophies are what create the greatest risk of fatality. A very unfortunate, sombering reality of being spectators of a blood sport is that we are going to have this sort of thing weighing on our collective consciences now and again. This does happen to seem a disproportionately common problem in the UK lately, it must be said.
Seemed to be a very nice down to earth person which makes it even more sad. They are now running headlines over here calling for boxing to be banned. Apparently it's a senseless waste of life. On that basis we may as well start banning high risk sports such as F1, motorcycle racing, skiing, horse racing.... since just as many needless deaths and tragic accidents occur within those sports yet I don't hear much commotion about putting a ban on them. Must be a class thing.
