Hagler vs Hearns or Benn vs Barkley. Which was more entertaining for you?

Hagler vs Hearns is often quoted as being as one of the best and most exciting middleweight fights ever but looking back, if you compare it with the Benn vs Barkley fight who only lasted one round, I think I would say that the latter was more entertaining. Hagler/Hearns started off like a runaway train but after the first couple of minutes, it seem clear to me that Hagler was going to win after taking Hearns best shots. The only question was when Hagler got cut and it seem then like a race against time to see if he could stop the fast weakening Hearns before the cut became fight ending. In the Benn fight though, even though Barkley was knocked down early twice, there still seem a chance that he could turn the tables and score the Ko himself. He didn’t of course and the fight was soon stopped on the 3 knockdown rule but still for what little time it lasted I would still rank it above Hagler/Hearns for pure entertainment.

    Who does everyone else think?

Ive always said thevbenn and barkley fight being stopped when itwas was a huge robbery for the boxing fan

As was the lack of rematch.a super middle title unification in 1993 would have been a big payday for iran but i doubt the bbbc would have sanctioned it due to their ignorant pompous view on barkleys eye

Do they still use the 3 knockdown (in one round) rule in major fights today?

Barkley was much better in the second Hearns fight than he was vs Benn, his hands were higher, he was really easy to hit for Benn.

The Benn fight was great for me I was 12 and a Benn fan after I met him at a boxing venue, I was tense and there was action right through and I got a high when Benn won, I ws younger for the Hagler war and I didn`t care who won plus I didn`t see it live but even though the Benn fight was big in Britain Hagler had became a superstar so that fight was the bigger event it felt major, Hearns prone body on the floor wss on the front page of my British newspaper! That would never happen now and didn`t happen for the Benn fight, there was much better moves being made on the way in by Hagler than what was shown in the messy Benn scrap.

Wasnt Barkley fouled multiple times without any help from the ref.

Hagler vs Hearns was better because both guys were hitting each other clean. Barkley hit Benn, but not too much. Had Barkley hit Nigel clean, he would have knocked out Nigel. He hit him with a nice left hook, but then Nigel knocked him down. I agree that 3 knockdown rule was ridiculous. It would have been a nice round 2.. And maybe more.

He probably was , but wouldn't have made much difference to the result either way .Benn was at his middle weight Best that night. He freely admitted he was crapping him self against Iran so he went in hard and fast to get him outa there. I was rooting for Benn , so I was well happy with the result.

The style was all wrong for Barkley. Benn was too fast on the inside and was hitting him clean, although the 3 knockdown rule helped Benn since Barkley coming out in round 2 might have been trouble. Benn was a heck of a fighter, and I loved this fight because both guys came out swinging and both were hurt in this fight. Reminded me of Mancini vs. Frias.

I to love this match up .I loved watching Nigel on his way up , was like a middle weight Tyson. Was gutted when he lost to Watson but he learnt a little from that loss. Then when he signed for Barkley I had vision s of Benn been KO'd like hearns .But as you say Barkley was all wrong for Benn , so one if Nigel s Best performance s .

Hagler Hearns for sure .. Benn Barkley was fun but I feel the ref let Benn ambush Iran and it cost him .. still, you have to give Benn credit for coming to the US and actually fighting some top guys while Eubanks had no such interest ..

Didn't like Benn vs. Barkley because of the stoppage. I felt like it cut the fight short, and fight I think Iran would've won. He wasn't all that hurt when it was stopped.

I think Benn hit Barkley when he was down after the first knockdown and the second knockdown. He should've been disqualified. Terry Norris was on multiple occasions for doing the same thing.

Hitting someone when they are down can often be an accident. The second time he did it, Barkley was down on all fours and Benn wound up and clocked him.

Before benn iran had had a long layoff and detached retina surgery plus his father had died....that version iran was rusty and distracted....style wise he couldnt have been facing a faster starter......barkley lost legit ,probAbly rounds 2 and 3 would've been more of the same ...but on the flip side theres also a very good possibility iran might have won..the fight was stopped early...we were deprived of possibly another 1,2 even 6 rounds of bellybusting action.

Barkley of 1992 i beleive beats the benn of 92/93 he was just damn relentless and so strong at 168/175...i think he gets in benns chest...its a incredible 10 round pier 6 brawl before barkely buries his man
