One of my friends uncle claims that he went to school with Ortiz and he's not 38...but he may be lying, does anyone know how old he is?
What's the obsession with Luis Ortiz' age. He's probably just one of them people that looks way older than his age!. Some people look older than their age, some people look younger than their age. It happens.
He is 38. First medal in Cuban amateur championship (silver) 2002 when he was 23. Professional debut 2010 when he was 30. Sounds right for me.
As far as looks go, I'm 39 and he looks significantly older than me, then again most of my friends do as well. I swear I read somewhere that another Cuban boxer said Ortiz was really like 47 but I can't remember the site
Im guessing he is 42 or 43. Coming to the US he needed to say he was a few years younger so he could get signed to a promoter.
He was nicknamed "King Kong" at the tender age of twelve. Ortiz was enamored by the 1933 film "King Kong" after he saw the film on opening weekend. Back then a nickel would get ya a tub a popcorn, endless pop and a whole days worth of cinema!
Here he is fighting Mamedov in the world championships in 2005. He is supposed to be 25 here and is almost certainly in his mid-20's as his body has not filled out yet. Could he be a year or three older? Sure, more than that? Don't buy it. http://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Luis_Ortiz_(of_Cuba)
