Any suggestions on good fighters to watch for the fundamentals? I'm not so much interested as fighters like Ali with extraordinary gifts - thinking more of boxers who made the most of themselves with rock solid fundamentals. The likes of Hopkins, perhaps?

Alexis Arguello. And Harold Brazier; he started late, no amateur career that I know of, but ended up with over 100 wins, fought for world titles. Nothing outstanding about him but he was fundamentally sound.

I’ve really enjoyed watching Mickey Garcia, solid basics - excellent movement, balance and power.

I wouldn't recommend Ali (his name) to anyone thats a beginner. He did so many things against the fundamentals that anyone else that didn't have his speed and reflexes would get knocked out.

Miguel Cotto is pretty good for boxing fundamentals. Keeps his hands up in the text book fashion, uses angles, pivoting, very good jab. Everything you want to see from a beginner he clearly and consistently displayed in his fights.

For his jab alone I would recommend. As a beginner you must understand the most important punch in boxing.

His jab wasn't textbook and he didn't always use it in a way for beginners to use. For one he held it at his waist usually.

I understand what you're saying though.

Beginners need to see how you can dominate and win fights with the jab alone. Just my opinion.

MC is/was an excellent boxer. Very skilled, great in and out foot movement.
