Best version of toney vs best version if hearns at MW.

I think both fights are quite competitive.

Toney vs McCallum in the rematch was great and would`ve beaten Hagler 87 easier than Hearns of the Shuler fight, Hearns punches were sharp in the Shuler and it would have been difficult for Toney to counter the way he did v McCallum because of Hearns reach and power, but Toney`s chin and defense would have kept him in it and I don`t know if Hearns would carry on with the pace he set in the 1st round v Shuler, great fight. If Nunn stood in front of Hagler the way he did vs Toney he probably would have been knocked out, he couldn`t take Hagler`s shots flush and Marvin had a lot of tricks but Nunn may be ahead on points up to then because his offense was as good as Raay`s was v Hagler and he would be throwing a lot more in my opinion.

If Nunn decides to use his feet I could see a UD over a fairly shopworn Hagler, Nunn was too content to exchange with Toney on the inside and Toney ate him alive to the body. Hagler might do the same if Nunn Allows him. Interesting fight. I wrote articles on both Hager vs Ray https://imgur.com/gallery/eO4kY and Nunn vs Toney https://imgur.com/gallery/ccwN4

Tony had a very sharp right hand counter and I think he could land it enough to make a difference. Think Hearns would be a bit frustrated having such a hard time landing his own right and get a little bit reckless, allowing Toney to roll and counter.

I think Nunn would have hard time coping with Hagler's shotgun for right jab, and his flurries wouldn't deter Marvin. Think even the faded Hagler of '87 would pull it off.

But the version of Nunn who fought Toney is not the best version of Nunn. He was slipping in form in 90-91 in my opinion.

I would favor Nunn of '88 to beat Leonard of the Hagler fight pretty easily by UD.

The Nunn who fought Toney would have a harder time and if I have to pick I'll go with Leonard by Split Decision.

Perhaps Nunn was slipping post Kalambay. Perhaps he just never had the stamina to look good against someone who could push him for a full fight. I don't know which.

I mistakenly thought this was Leonard v. Nunn

    Hagler of '87 v. Nunn of '91?

    Hagler by tko

''88 (absolute prime) Nunn v. 87 Hagler I would go with Nunn by UD.

Best version of Toney at 160 lbs v. best version of Hearns at 160 lbs?

    Hearns by decision.

I know you didn't ask but best version of Toney at 160 lbs. v. best version of Nunn at 160? Nunn by UD. I don't think he would have gotten got caught late.

Nunn 1991 vs hagler 1987. are you kidding?

both are southpaws but Nunn still much quicker so I take Nunn on points. Hagler's "power" at this point is more myth than an actual threat

Actually Toney did KO the best version of Nunn.

Hagler. Nunn couldn't punch hard enough to keep him off. Plus the work rate would slow him down to a standstill around the 10th.

Hagler was great Nunn never was.

Is there anything substantial to back up that Nunn had slipped by the time he faced Toney?

A very legitimite question. I had heard Bob Arum wanted Nunn to fight more aggressively and pressured himinto a style he wasnt comfortable with, but it's just hearsay.
