That's because at 39, out of shape, overweight and with ring rust he took a belly flop for a paycheck second time around. Losing 15 pounds of mass and muscle, it's not what you've learned over time or if you were green, its just physics. With his height and frame, at 214, he's gonna have much less power and punch resistance. With his height and his frame, he is not going to have significant gains in speed and movement by dropping his weight from 228 to 214. He moved well and looked fast at 228. From 228 to 214, he's only losing attributes, not gaining. With his height and frame, at 235 he's still skinny, he's probably faster and moves better, with more power and better punch resistance at 235-240 than he ever would have at 214.

Wilder is a Haymon fighter, so I'm not surprised.

i put up a eddie hearn article i think in this thread

The Matchroom kingpin said: “We pay something like £30k every fight, to make sure the fighters are tested.

“As soon as the contract is signed, that testing is under way, that’s WADA. We optionally sign up for that

“We are also with UKAD, through the BBBofC and that’s 365 days a year, random whereabouts testing.

“The last three or four fights we have been test eight times in camp by UKAD and WADA over a 12-week period.

if you include joshuas out of comp tests thats 20 times a year he is tested most of them random tests.

it is my guess that joshua would be the most tested top 10 fighter in the world.

wilder should be commended for being clean / i dont think he is on anything other than pot.

    Wilder weight was
    228 3/4 vs Szpilka
    226 1/4 vs Arreola
    222 vs Washington
    220 vs Stiverne
    214 vs Ortiz

His muscle mass has been consistently dropping since he started VADA testing, which was pointed out in the very first post.

Pure guesswork. There's no reason he won't have more speed, stamina and better movement than ever.

but its only on average 2 or 3 lb a fight
    wilder is a gym rat
he most probably burns 4000 calories a day in the gym plus with muscle you burn it even at rest

if he ate 6 one thousand calorie meals a day he would still lose weight.

End of the day Wilder doesn't need to add bulk 215 to 226 is ideal for his style.

250 is certainly no good for him.

Which adds up to losing 14 3/4 pounds of solid muscle. Right at the very time he is trying to put on 20 pounds of solid muscle, and when he started getting VADA tested.

It does not matter how much muscle he lost per fight. He gained a lot of muscle over many years of hard work, and suddenly lost it all relatively quickly as soon as he started VADA testing. It's not like his weight has been going up and down since he started VADA testing his muscle mass has been consistently dropping.

so you are speculating that wilder until 3 years ago was a drug cheat and now he is clean and losing muscle mass ?

any man of his height can gain or lose a stone with absolute ease in a year .
especilly one that trains as hard as wilder does.

its just a matter of balancing what he eats to how many calories he burns.

if he does not weigh himself every single week weight loss and gain is easy.

i guarantee if you weigh yourself in the morning when you get up and then at 9pm at night you will weigh 1 or 2 lb differential.

then multiply that over a year

Losing weight from the morning to the evening has nothing to do with losing 14 3/4 pounds of solid muscle, it has to do with you eating food, and drinking during the day obviously.

It is not like Wilder was fat and has lost it from doing a lot of hard training. He was just as lean at 229 pounds as he is now at 214 pounds. What he has lost is 14 3/4 pounds of solid muscle, and it happened right when he was trying to gain 20 pounds, and right when he just started getting VADA tested.

He complained off feeling flat footed and sluggish in the days after the Szpilka fight.
Subconsciously, he may have thought his bulking up slowed him, when in reality, Szpilka is simply the fastest and slickest fighter who lasted more than a grazing punch.
Szpilka was also coming off good wins and has an unorthodox style that allowed for him to take advantage of Wilder own limited fundamentals.

Wilder felt as we did that he was losing that fight. Perhaps in an effort to increase speed he began focusing on getting quicker on his feet to make up for his poor lower body coordination.

Not too concerned with the 214 as Wilder should be more elusive in the ring but I’ve always been concerned about the lack of support with his tiny legs
If Kong catches him hard he could very easily have Wilder dancing.
I still think Wilder takes this in the end and I’m just happy to see him taking on a dangerous opponent that most Champs would avoid.
