There is zero evidence wilder has a glass jaw after 40 pro fights. Never down or out, but people insist on repeating this narrative.

They see what they want to see and project. Considering his lack of defense, its very strange that a guy who supposedly cant take punch seems to have done well in that department. Hes no mayweather or sweet pea.

Deontay Wilder is a heavyweight, Rocky Marciano would be a light heavyweight or cruiser weight by modern standards. Wilder by brutal 1 punch first round Ko.

Who would run in a one-mile race, Hicham El Guerrouj or Roger Bannister? This is a similar question to the one asked in this forum thread, but there isn't 20 pages of forum discussion on it.

Let's put it this way: despite what people may say, if Marciano could be time-travelled to the present day to face Wilder, there would be very few people putting money on Marciano at even-money odds.

    Ok, my mistake.

1 down in 40 pro fights still isnt a glass jaw lol.

He took some big time shots from Ortiz and stayed up. What is more impressive is that he recovered and laid his heart out there. There are some serious character qualities there that can not be learned or faked.

Ortiz didn't land many clean punches and it wasn't like Wilder was hurt in the first few seconds of the round and had to last the rest of the round. It was in the final what 20 seconds? This showed nothing and also has nothing to do with Wilder vs Marciano.

Marciano the 180 pound fighter who almost got knocked out by 160 pound Ted Lowry wouldn't make it past 30 seconds with overrated Wilder. There is no 5'10 180 pound fighter in existence who could be a even semi top level modern sized heavyweight.

I still think Marciano shreds Wilder, but it may not be the first round KO that I thought it'd be. Wilder showed us something against Ortiz.

Any heavy that can bang and take a punch reasonably well is giving Marciano trouble tbh .Throw in a good jab and Rocks going to be fighting against the tide .If Marciano was fighting Wilder Today I wouldn't be surprised to see him stopped mid fight .Unless he can pull off a thousand to one shot and lay out DW behind on points, but don't see it happening.

Wilder was down once against Harold Sconiers. But I agree that his recuperative powers are sufficiently strong that he can't be considered to have the proverbial glass jaw.

One thing that worries me about Wilder fighting a guy like Marciano, Dempsey, or Tyson, is that his inside defense has holes.

When he lets someone in the inside, he finds it difficult to create distance when the opponent is unleashing bombs thrown with good mechanics. He had many near brushes with Ortiz where he barely escaped a huge blow by leaning back and stepping backwards. That might get you out of jail against a 40 year old plodder with some explosive energy in his tank. But a guy like Marciano will bring that pressure non stop. And if Rocky had Deontay hurt, I don’t see Wilder escaping the wobbly legs against a guy who can Stay close and low like Rocky.

When Wilder gets socked on the inside his hands go in the air. That to me a signal of a fighter who doesn’t react well to hits on the inside.

Marciano's slow feet, slow hands and T-Rex reach give Wilder a much greater margin of error than he had against a legit modern heavy in Ortiz.

Yeah, Marciano is too small and too slow to try to time and counter Wilder the way Ortiz did.

Marciano would look like a lightening bolt next to Wilder and Ortiz.
His pace would be twice as fast.

More explosiveness, better mechanics, better athletics makes up for shorter reach.
When Wilder is hurt, and tosses his hands in the air after a hard punch, he'll need to foul to survive.

That's right, I forgot that Marciano was the second coming of Meldrick Tayor in these parts.
