Stiverne, a top 5 opponent? Maybe, but he clearly did not belong and I question how he was ranked in the Ring Magazine's top ten to begin with. He went the distance with Wilder.

Ortiz was old but in the lead until he gassed.

The issue is you are comparing hall of fame fighters, or very good ones to an old Ortiz, and a Stiverene.

I'd pick Mercer, Bowe, Tyson, and Foreman to go 2-0 vs the guys Wilder fought too.

Wilder belongs in the top 5 for now, but his patch to get there included an old man and someone people will scratch their head wonder how he was ranked in the first place. The division is in transition with older guys at the top, and little depth in the rest of the top ten. 2-4 year from now, it will be better as talent is on the way up, and Wilder if he fights anyone in their prime I think won't be ranked as high as he is now.

I'd pick Usyk, likely to go heavyweight after he cleans out the cruiser weight division to beat Wilder on points.

Old Foreman and Mercer would not pull it off. They didn’t have that kind of consistency. Stiverne was the first guy to stop Arreola and beat him twice while he was prime. Chris only lost to top guys back then, beat the rest.

Wlad was 41 inactive and coming off a lost but they still crown Joshua’s win the best thing ever

Why not? Ortiz was old too. Stiverene was terrible. A low output punch type, and stationary to hit.

Arreola was in decline, badly beaten by Vitali Klitschko well before Stiverene fought him.

True, but we can see by he performance, Wlad had something left.

Ortiz was fat, and perhaps as old.

Joshua has beaten better men than Wilder for sure and by a good margin if he beats Parker as most expect.

I think the OP's is a fair assessment. I appreciate when fighters take their technique to the next level and while he has improved for a late starter, he's not where I'd like him to be at this point. And yet he should still be respected and considered dangerous. No hate if you're a fan, and I do like his personality (colorful braggadocio but not without respect for his opponents) but he's not my ideal type of fighter to root for.

Why wouldn’t you want him to fight AJ next?

Well wasn't Ortiz also suspended? Yes. Why not fight him 2-3 years ago?

Heck why not fight Potevkin now before he's 40?

Wilder has had a boatload of excuses, and has only fought one decent guy, and waited to do that until he was old. With 40 fights, I'd expect more. But I see a pattern of fighting soft, non-top ten ring magazine ranked opponents who can't punch hard, and one top ten ring magazine opponent that could be 41. The fact that Wilder struggled many times as the winner suggests to me he's not that good.

Wilder is his own worst enemy and vastly over rates himself. He'll need to beat one more top ten contender in his prime to breakaway from his past habits.

In another thread, someone compared him to Max Bear. I see a taller Bob Satterfield without Bob's willingness to fight the best when the fight was initially offered.

Arreola improved his conditioning and may have been at his best for Stiverne.

A lot of people seemed to be picking Stiverne and Ortiz. Even if Mercer and and Foreman each got through both of them, which I doubt because Ortiz is probably too good to go 0-2 against them, they would still have to beat a bunch of fringe guys without screwing up. Someone like Malik Scott could give Foreman problems.

I would. I like to see Wilder prove it one more time vs. one of the guy's I mentioned. This way the " super fight " has more value.

The winner of Joshua vs. Wilder will define the second half of this decade for heavyweight boxing.

When you beat a man, the win is valued by his resume and how impressively you beat him. Right now for Wilder still does not have much of a resume.

Joshua by beating Parker and Wlad will have proven he worthy. Wilder by Beating Ortiz and one of the guys I mentioned will have a better resume.

But hey if they meet next, that's fine by me. I'd just like to see Joshua get a little more credit for the win when they meet.
