That wouldn't be as effective an insult as calling him, essentially, an effeminate boy, would it? This is like people not understanding the difference between saying "I could not care less" and "I could", and why the distinction matters.

Tomgirl makes more sense. Think of a really camp guy (tomgirl) fighting. Then think of a female fighter like Holly Holm (tomboy) fighting.
I wouldn't really consider Holly Holm a tomboy, she's been boxing most of her life, she's pretty feminine outside of the ring/octagon. Holm also has much better punching technique than Wilder. I've never seen a "tomgirl" fight, but I have seen gays fight and It's nothing like how Wilder fights. But a tomboy, they throw those wild, husky, telegraphed swings compared to a regular girl who just pull hair and scratch.
