How does Floyd do against the wild bull ? Does Firpo cause a Ingo type upset here catching him as he did Dempsey but going further and stopping Floyd ? Or does he succumb to Patterson's lighting fast combo s ? 15 rounds
That would be a really good fight. I expect Patterson to outbox Firpo for the majority of the rounds but Firpo would probably have a round or two where he knocks Patterson down a few times. Patterson UD or Firpo KO
It could be one of those mad fight s where anything could happen. Firpo at his most basic but dangerous , Floyd lookin for a opening .,Could be a multiple knock down fight this one. I'll say Patterson wins by 6round ko after being on the verge of being ko d himself.
hap·less ˈhapləs/ adjective (especially of a person) unfortunate. "if you're one of the many hapless car buyers who've been shafted" synonyms: unfortunate, unlucky, luckless, out of luck, ill-starred, ill-fated, jinxed, cursed, doomed; unhappy, forlorn, wretched, miserable, woebegone; informaldown on one's luck; literarystar-crossed "the hapless victims of exploitation"
Yeah, not the perfect adjective. He made a ton of money and lived a long, seemingly happy life... I will take the definition of "miserable" and "pathetic" to accurately describe him.
So not even a punchers chance Seamus? Remember ..Patterson was dropped by Pete Rademacher ,whilst Firpo dropped the solid chinned Dempsey. And I know that its unfair to say Floyd suffers with all big punchers ,but firpo could just be wild enough to catch him .Patterson wins IMO ,he's clearly the better fighter but I believe he finds himself on the floor at least once.
Oh geeze, Floyd is about 50 years more advanced in technique. Actually, he's on an entirely different planet. Firpo is no Sonny Liston, make no mistakes based on whatever he did or didn't accomplish by bum rushing Jack Dempsey.
Yeah Floyd Patterson was more advanced in skill. But unfortunately his chin could make him vulnerable to big hitters as it wasn't just Liston who stopped him. For example, Max Baer could be a dangerous foe for Patterson, even though Patterson was on another level of skill as compared to Maxie. Although, Max Baer was better than Firpo....
Hi Fergy. Cool your jets bud! I'm so sick of every 'Floyd-basher' on board here (not you) bringing up that one-sided Rademacher fight. Pete was a career amateur, which was semi-common in those days, out weighed Floyd by a ton, and was 5-6 years older. All in all Pete had a passible pro career; beat Chuvalo! Pete's KD of Floyd was 'flash' all the way. Floyd got up immediately with a bemused look on his face then proceeded to dismantle Pete; I think he felt sorry for him as the fight progressed. After the 2nd or 3rd KD, Floyd was just relaxing on the ropes waiting for him to get up. Eras aside, Patterson would have Firpo for lunch! Maybe one of those Pete KD's along the way but he'd be tasting blistering fast combos (faster than Dempsey) almost from the 1st bell. My $0.02
Firpo definitely ain't no Liston and this is no detriment to Floyd, but he did get caught a good few times on the canvas, and not always by all time greats. Firpo is big enough and wild enough to catch Floyd ,even in a bumrush .As I've pointed out , Floyd s a much better fighter but it doesn't take away his chance of being caught out.
Consider that 18 of 26 KO's were of guys with losing records or debuting... Is that really what we call an accomplished KO puncher?
