Inspired on another thread. I know one of the worst if not the worst 40-0 of a "great" champion. Julio cesar chavez. Even with a 40-0 still fought a guy in his debut.. Pathetic. http://boxrec.com/en/boxer/8119 What an inflated record.
I am talking about the worst 40-0 . stop changing the topic to make excuses for him. A guy with a 30-0 should be fighting against elite fighters and defending titles not facing tomato cans and guys making their pro debut. Robinson did his debut against guys with tons fights
Marciano's 30th opponent was Ted Lowry who had lost his last 3,and won 2 of his last 7 ,his record up to that time was: 66-57-10
If the purpose of those fights was to take the hardest fights available to impress know-nothings in the future it is a terrible record. If the intention was to build from scratch a fighter that would win championships in three divisions, beat everyone put in front of him, and stay at or near the top of the P4P ratings for close to a decade, it was a well planned process. You have a guy that won a world title at 20 in his 45th fight. How much faster could or should he have been moved?
How about Pongsaklek Wonjongkam. I’m a big fan of Pong he’s kinda like Chavez a huge record but at least until half way through it ain’t impressive reading. He wasn’t 40-0 he was 40-2 and finished with a long reign as champ and retired 90-5-2. Thai system is very different though.
It is funny when you mention a mistake of "a legend" and several posters get mad and take it like an attack even if it is truth.
the 40 early fights are still completely unnecessary, your point and that are mutually entirely exclusive in fact.
And you would have taken an 18 year old with 15 amateur fights and ruined him. They built a guy that was atop boxing for a dozen years, made millions of dollars and became a legend to his countrymen.
his career began when he stopped years of bumkilling just nomaschenko any fool who paid for his eary fights deserves to throw ther money down the drain.
