Ward by decision. Calzaghe went live a death with a washed up Bernard Hopkins or lost two decision to Jermain Taylor two years before.
I was a huge Calzaghe fan soo Im a little biased here.. But being realistic I think it wouldve been a very hard fight for him. I think Ward woulve desicioned him.. But definitely a very tough fight for both. Calzaghe was a nightmare for anyone and so is Ward.
Calzaghe couldn't do anything with Hopkins in rounds that Hopkins had gas in the tank. He wouldn't be able to handle a fresher Ward.
ward has too many weapons. joe has just the tank, volume swarms and being southpaw. plus a good chin at SMW. consistency I guess, but not at top level. Thats enough to win a title, which is very good but brrr, going up against ATGs? theres a reason joe wasnt chasing roy jons, as he admitted freely. even going up against elites? theres a reason Joe avoided kessler once kesslers hand was fixed. ward , on the other hand, raised the bar each subsequent step in his title career, beginning with bettering joes best, final smw win and then taking it higher with each progressive year. way beyond blue man, left joe behind as soon as he beat up mikkel in hs first title fight.
Ward but you should probably search Ward vs Calzaghe. There have been 100's of these topics in the past few years.
I think people want to overshadow the resounding fact that Calzaghe had been past his best for a few years before he took on Hopkins and Jones Jr. In my eyes Calzaghe's other worldly work rate sees him take at least 4 of the last 6 rounds. There's no doubt that neither of them faced a better fighter in there prime so it's a genuine pick em fight. A draw wouldn't be out the question either
Ward is more versatile, has a higher ring IQ, more accurate, more defensively sound, and more athletic. He should take it.
Ward but I think Calzaghe would do pretty well in the match though, I dont think Ward would dominate by any means
not a few years at all, his best win by A LARGE margin (MK) immediately preceded his move to LHW for hunting out fortysomethings.
Both have shown a good engine and generally look better and better as fights go on. JC takes it though and clearly. His style is a bad matchup for Ward. I haven't seen Ward face anyone as slick, awkward or with the speed of Calzaghe. Roy Jones although faded couldn't even handle Joe's workrate and speed. Ward avoided Dirrell and Bute. Calzaghe isn't as elusive as Ward but won't be shy of trading or worry about Ward's feather fists. Just needs to be mindful of the headbutts and lowblows.
