Sorry for the bump but it is threads like this one which makes this website so very special.
I tip my hat to the contributors.

This is what a heavyweight thread should be like.
    Take note people.

I think if you rank purely on how the fighter did in their era there is no argument against Louis. Sadly I think due to Ali being Ali, people seem to think the division reached its all time peak and started to regress at that point.

This was said a decade ago, but it's exactly how I feel now.

It's cool to know you guys all knew your **** 10 years ago, but at the same time you're still learning more and more year on year. I'd only been watching boxing on a regular basis for about a year when this thread was first made.

Jack Dempsey. H2H, I think he ends up with the best record and most KOs.

You mean being knocked out in your prime? Ali trumps Louis IMO.

    No.

If you believed that there eras were equally good, you would have to rate Louis higher.

The only way that you can rate Ali higher, is to assume that his era was better, which most including me do.

    • I suppose one could say Ali was on the verge of losing against Cooper whilst on his run for the title. That was one shot though, Louis was out fought from the start to the finish.
