How Mike Tyson's performance suffered against heavy opponents Let's check how Mike Tyson performed against different weights of opponents. Median opponent weight ▲ Median record ○ Fight result ○ 215 lbs 18-10 Tyson wins by KO1 218 lbs 25-11 Tyson wins by KO2 220 lbs 26-11 Tyson wins by KO3 225 lbs 40-7 Tyson wins by KO4-6 225 lbs 42-7 Tyson wins by decision 228 lbs 38-7 Tyson wins by KO7-12 240 lbs 41-6 Tyson loses Fistic Statistic [#211.MTPerOppW] Mike Tyson's performance when the opponents got heavier and heavier As you see Mike was more limited by the weight than by the quality of opposition. Tyson's triple point is approximately at 225 lbs where he could go either way: KO'win, decision, loss. Unfortunately for Mike his triple point is nowadays the entry point for the heavyweight division (70% of the opponents of he Klitschkos are 225+): Weight range of opponent ▲ KO'ratio of Mike Tyson ○ KO'ratio of Lamon Brewster ○ 180-199 100% - 200-214 91% 100% 215-229 83% 90% 230+ 64% 59% Fistic Statistic [#211.MTOppWR] Mike Tyson's fair KO'ratio related to opponents' weight range One can also make another statistic: Career ▲ Median opponent weight (including NC) ○ How many opponents were former cruisers?○ Record of Mike Tyson ○ after prison 236 lbs 31% 9-5 before prison 216 lbs 57% 41-1 Fistic Statistic [#211.3] You see 1) how the division changed while Tyson was in prison and 2) How Mike's chances diminished once the division got considerably heavier. Remember the fight Wladimir Klitschko vs Sultan Ibragimov? The small guy (Ibragimov) was like Tyson's average opponent BEFORE prison (actually Ibragimov was heavier). The big guy (Klitschko) was like Tyson's average opponent AFTER prison. No wonder that Tyson's best days were behind him: The division got too modern for Mike and would be even more dangerous with the advent of the Klitschkos. One has to doubt whether he would actually be given the chance to fight against the Klitschkos, since Mike would probably fail already against gatekeepers.
One point, Tyson was loaded with coke to boost his confidence and aggression in most fights. That ain't allowed here in any WK match up. Coke is also a fat burner, overall a blatant ped for me.
some nutjob still going on about height with tyson, apparently tyson cant knock out anyone over 6 foot 3" ? David jaco 6 foot 6, koed in 1 reggie gross 6 foot 4, koed in 1 Alfonso Ratliff tko2 biggs tko6 william 6 foot 4 ko2 as has been said, some mf-ers enjoy trying to iceskate uphill. but no issue, the dumbster's two page essay have been dealt with easily with a minimal five line post.
You cannot defeat a well schooled Tyson in his late teens/early 20's without power....there were NO threatening power punchers in that period to even be a threat to him which is why he was never behind in a fight or losing many rounds even in his second year as a pro fighting top seasoned guys..... All the big guys were not power punchers. Joshua would EASILY be his most formidable opponent able to also fight inside something fighters then weren't doing who were 6'3 plus. 41 year old Klitchko > ANY one Tyson fought. Referencing your AJ remark as usual trying to discredit which won't work here. Still doesn't tell me Wlad defeats Tyson using the ACTUAL fighters based on who actually struggled in fights with certain styles.....
Wlad can't even pivot. His size is a disadvantage in this fight because he's a track fighter and he's not too hard to drop. The first phantom overhead Tyson throws puts Wlad out. His own inertia will cause the KO more than anything.
lol @ the people who thinks Tyson would win. Wlad too big and hits too hard, Tyson would have to respect his power. Jab too good and clinches every time Tyson comes in. Post KO 2.0 Wlad wins by late rd KO.
So Wlad doesn't beat Tyson due to fighters he faced, yet AJ beating a 41yo inactive Wlad, a Wlad coming off the longest break in his career, a Wlad that dropped and was out boxing AJ, proves that AJ is the only fighter with a chance to beat Tyson? **** me you are thick.
Wladimir Klitschko NEVER struggled against any opponent with the physical dimensions (height, weight and reach) as Mike Tyson's. Irrespective of what style they used. In fact, Wladimir Klitschko would be Mike Tyson's combined tallest + heaviest + rangiest opponent EVER. Excluding opponents who weren't bums (boxers with 25% or more losses out of their records). Mike Tyson never KO'ed a single heavyweight taller than 6 foot 3 inches in height and his only stoppage was a controversial one against Lou Savarese. Anthony Joshua's performance against Wladimir Klitschko can't be used to gauge how Mike Tyson would do against Wladimir Klitschko. Anthony Joshua is 6 foot 6, is 240+ pounds with an 82 inch reach. Meanwhile, Mike Tyson is 5 foot 10, 220 - 230 pounds and has an 72 inch reach. Mike Tyson simply doesn't have the luxury to do what Joshua did against Wladimir Klitschko. Let's put it this way: Mike Tyson struggled heavily to beat taller opponents (even bums). Mike Tyson struggled heavily to beat heavier opponents (even bums). Mike Tyson had minor difficulties to beat top level skilled opponents. In Wladimir Klitschko, he finds an opponents who is HEAVY + TALL + SKILLED. Mike Tyson's chances of winning shrink significantly as a result. Let's check what happened when Tyson met BETTER+TALLER (i.e. > 6'3'')opponents: First time Mike met a taller+better opponent: ·Mitch Green (6'5.0'') –> UD10 Second time Mike met a taller+better opponent: ·James Bonecrusher Smith (6'4.0'') –> UD10 Third time Mike met a taller+better opponent: ·Tony Tucker (6'5.0'') –> UD12 Fourth time Mike met a taller+better opponent: ·Buster Douglas (6'3.5'') –> Tyson gets KO'ed Sixth time Mike met a taller+better opponent: ·Lennox Lewis (6'5.0'') –> Tyson gets KO'ed Seventh time Mike met a taller+better opponent: ·Kevin McBride (6'6.0'') –> Tyson gets KO'ed The longest Mike Tyson ever needed to KO someone Already against bigger and not-so-good opponents Tyson had his difficulties: Take for example ·James Tillis (42-22) who is mistakenly listed at 6'1'' (at boxrec) but was taller. Tillis ended Tyson's KO streak. And were it not for the unfortunate out-of-balance flash knockdown in round #4 Tillis might have even won against Tyson. We are talking here about bummy James 'Quick' Tillis who has a real heavyweight record of 24-22 who has KO'ed only 2 non-bums in his entire career who was KO'ed 11 times, including by Tommy Morisson (round 1), Cliff Couser (5'11'', Tyson's half brother) and featherfist Evander Holyfield. Yet Mike Tyson had great difficulties against Tillis and won only by decision. Let's take a look at Tyson's performances against other tall B-level fighters: The longest Tyson ever needed to KO someone was ·Jose Ribalta, a 39-17 bum. Tyson needed 10 rounds against this china-chinned featherfist. In fact Jose Ribalta was so chinny that NOBODY (of the 8 other opponents who KO'ed Ribalta) needed that long. Jose Ribalta was KO'ed within 4 rounds by Chris Byrd was KO'ed within 2 rounds by Vitali Klitschko. was even KO'ed by 0-1 cruiser Ricardo Richardson 188 lbs. Only Tyson needed 10 rounds. The second longest KO came against ·Tyrell Biggs. It's astonishing that the oh-so-devastating Mike needed 7 rounds (2:59 in the 7th round) to KO someone as inexperienced as Biggs (15-0 at bout) who additionally was said to be an alcoholic and to have a cocaine problem who was a bum (30-10) and also a china-chinned featherfist What was the reason for these slowest KOs of Tyson's career? Again, there is 1 feature that unites them both: Biggs and Ribalta were > 6'3'' thus too tall for Mike to play out his signature punches. These are just facts! And facts dictates that Mike Tyson has as much of a chance at beating Wladimir Klitschko as any of Wladimir Klitschko's shorter opponents (shorter than 6 foot 3 inches) had. Which is less than 10%. Mike Tyson will have a more difficult time against Wladimir Klitschko than any opponent he has EVER faced in his career. Only a puncher's chance is what I give Tyson.
Your facts are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay off. You've missed out taller opponents like Ribalta etc Know your boxing young man!
It depends on place and time where this fight would have taken place. In Germany with Steward he would simply have wrestled him like he wrestled with Povetkin or with Chambers and would have won by UD or by KO. In the US, especially in the 80's - early 90's, he would have been disqualified after 2-3 rounds.
