Yes and I train with weights. I could easily do from the first day stuff that manual laborers were doing and they can't do 50% of weights that I'm lifting... And I'm not all that strong
Nice to see that George got smarter in his second career and lifted weights, although it was cows instead off barbells
Maybe when their both fresh. What if the shift last a full day? They nay be required to move and tax their lungs along with muscle. It depends on the individuals. Some weightlifters are good athletes some of us may be familiar "bodybuilders" that would be IMO people that don`t have as much functional strength. When you get too heavily muscled in order to have strength in certain areas you tend to give up "function" in other areas. Could be agility, flexibility, likely stamina and quickness.
Well like I said earlier myself and my guys continually smoke younger gym guys at work so I guess it's more of an individual thing
I dont care if Joe was a strong weightlifter or not. My old weightlifting partner was strong as a bull, far stronger than me, I mean ridiculously strong. He got a wild hair and decided he wanted to box one day and I broke his nose and ended any ideas he had about boxing and i wasnt anything special. Take all those guys that performed better than Joe in that competition and put them in the ring and Joe would be taking their lunch money
All good points, but I was talking about STRENGTH. Obviously someone who is strong isn't necessarily quick with good stamina... Im saying that training with weights is training for strength, and someone who trains for strength is gonna be stronger than someone who trains for boxing or does manual labor. Exactly when they are both fresh, that's where strength comes into play
End of the day Joe was a fighter through and through. Head to head none of those athletes would dare fight the man.
Nobody is disputing this. However if Frazier was stronger, that would have help him in the ring - he would have been even better. It is like saying if he were faster he would have been even better.
Sometimes it's just about getting used to doing the lift. I'm sure Frazier would be a strong weight lifter with some practice once his muscles got used to the movement
Hey man, don't get offended I'm just saying what I think it is true ... Manual labors are stronger than average people, hell some of them may be stronger than boxers especially if a boxer only does boxing training like the old school... Im sure there were some genetically gifted for strength manual labors or farm boys back in the day that were stronger than George Foreman, however they could not compete in strength with strength athletes...
Noooo not offended at all. If u go back I was originally defending Frazier then the post went in another direction. I'm just stating my crew and I for the most part can out work the gym guys. As far as the gym goes I do a small boxing workout followed by a small weight one and to be honest the huge guys that only lift and are alot younger are extra nice nice to me if u know what i mean. The point again is its 2 different things. Frazier isnt barbell strong but go back and read what I wrote about him and the 250 lb bag. Joe was strong where he needed to be and that was in the ring. No hostilities my man
I dont subscribe to that opinion. "Better" how? He was already considered strong as a bull in the ring. I dont think learning proper lifting technique to better accomplish a shoulder press or deadlift is going to make him a "better" boxer. Frazier was as good as Frazier was gonna get and that was DAMN good. Its not like he was being outmuscled by anyone other than Foreman who was both much bigger and freakishly strong (in fact I believe he was the strongest boxer in history). Accomplishing a stronger military press wasnt going to allow him to beat Foreman or outspeed/outsmart Ali in 1975. When Vargas got obsessed with strength and bodybuilding and took steroids he still got his ass kicked by DLH who focused on finesse and boxing. I think Vargas was a lesser fighter after focusing on weights than he was before.
You have to drop under the bar simultaneously. That's why Frazier couldn't lift it. He was mostly trying to press it. This content is protected https://www.boxrox.com/split-jerk/
So he was competing while having a bum arm. He also competed in boxing during his entire career with a bum eye.
