Everytime I look for boxing podcasts, they’re usually contemporary boxing podcasts with maybe the occasional top 10 list with some discussion of earlier era fighters. But are there any podcasts on the history of boxing? Any podcasts that play the ol’ radio broadcasts of fights? If not....can one of you get to making one already?
Not that I am aware of, though the site I work for has had all sorts of historical guests on. We have a show dedicated to historical topics, too.
I'm an Editor/Writer/Co-Host for The Grueling Truth. A list of interviews can be found here. We also have the authors of "Intimate Warfare: The True Story of the Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward Boxing Trilogy", Dennis Taylor and John Raspanti, doing shows for us. They usually have guests on, too.
sometimes these guys do a history bit: http://ringsideboxingshow.podbean.com/e/history-lesson-from-christopher-james-shelton/ can't say much about it, just stumbled on it once looking into Demokrates.
The guys who host The Ringside Boxing Show are Dennis Taylor and John Raspanti, who also publish through us. Shelton knows his stuff and has written a few books, none of which I've read, however. He does our Old Time Boxing Shows with us, too.
That's pretty awesome. I'm actually a fan of Chris, I've read Bare Knuckle, Boxing in the time of Christ, and Sylvie Dubois. They're all great books. I don't much listen to podcasts myself. I'm a reader, I can't rightly explain why, but being as it's difficult for me to sit through an hour or so of just talk I can't really speak to the quality of any podcast. Shelton is great though, I think those three books cover the majority of his work so I can speak to that.
Knuckles and Gloves. Can't remember the names of the presenters. Although I know that one of them is the guy who pushes the buttons on compu-box.
Billy C Blast from the Past, and Billy C Heavyweight Spotlight on YouTube. He's the guy who wrote the Tom Molineux biography.
One of the guys, you mean? The original (believe it was a father-and-son?) team, or reinforcements? I can't imagine it would still be the same two workhorses after all these years without their ranks being bolstered.
Aris Pina, that's the compubox guy who is the co-host. And the main presenter is Patrick Connor of the Fight City.
Ah, okay. So he's a later recruit, then...it was the latter situation. The original father & son team I was thinking of were Bob & Nick Canobbio.
