I mean, who's the best defensive fighter Arguello knocked out at any weight?

Surprised nobody mentioned Buchanan, considering how highly so many folks around here think of him...

    Wouldn’t write off Pacquiao’s chances.

Buchanan's face vs Alexis' fists that turned Alfredo Escalera's face into a "Hospital case"
    in Fight #1.

In what some experts (including The Ring writers) consider one of the most brutal fights in history, Escalera had his eye, mouth and nose broken early, but was rallying back in the scorecards when Argüello finished him, once in the thirteenth round.

Note: Argüello suffered many cuts around his face during his second victory against Escalera. The on-site doctor wanted him hospitalized, but Argüello had a flight to catch from Rome the next day to return to Nicaragua, and he boarded a train from Rimini. The doctor decided to travel with Argüello, and performed plastic surgery on Argüello's cuts with Argüello awake.

Interesting comparison. Do you think that Buchanan would stand toe to toe with Arguello and slugged it out like Escalera did? Seems like he might be a more elusive target and use some of the lateral movement that stymied Arguello’s offense in other fights.

You are probably right re: "movement".

He had the power, not the combination of heavy hands and the level of skill that roberto had.duran applied his power in the moment and right place .
Overall duran could stop much better fighters because his combination of natural power and skill

I completely agree but what you said was "ChaveZ never ever fought a guy with the power of duran at 135"

He did. If you said Chavez never fought anyone as offensively brilliant or as great as Duran at 135 it would have been bulletproof. I mean who has?!?!!?!

The odds tho would be against Duran knocking out Chavez.

My point is that duran would not fail where rosario did.

Well that's a long way from where you started with the power claim.

But if you imply Duran knocks him out i lean on the side of disagreeing. Given Chavez is an aggressive fighter he could well be in danger of being stopped but i'd hate to put anything substantial on it.

The only three I could think of had similar styles, great counter-punchers with great defensive ability. Whitaker, Benitez, and Mayweather. Anyone he could hit consistently, he beats in my opinion. Esp at the 15 rd limit like that fight was.

I think Duran stops him in a 12 round war.

However I'm not sure but I believe Duran was at 154 in 82.
